TL;DR

  • Reports of major issues emerge regarding YouTube’s Android application.
  • The movies pause unexpectedly, and the mini-player occasionally disappears when swiping down.
  • Although uninstalling app updates may provide temporary relief from the problem, it is unclear whether this solution addresses the root cause of the issue or simply masks its symptoms.

Based on customer feedback, a common issue on the YouTube Android app is the prevalence of two specific pain points.

If I’m viewing a video in full display mode, exiting full display will pause the playback, and it will resume playing only when I return to full screen. After a user leaves a video on the platform, the accompanying audio continues to play, but the thumbnail of the participating artist or creator fails to appear, causing the video to seemingly disappear off-screen.

I’m unable to use my slide and play buttons? According to a prominent YouTuber, deleting cache and restarting the drive alone enables the device to function for approximately an hour.

While resetting the YouTube app to its manufacturing default settings may temporarily resolve issues, numerous users have reported that the problems reoccur shortly thereafter. The nature of the problem remains ambiguous, leaving open questions about whether recent app updates or possibly server-side modifications implemented by Google are contributing factors.

I cannot pause nor transfer the time on the video; if I do so, the video remains stuck. One user lamented, “In order to revisit an old video, I have to stop the current playback and start a fresh instance.”

If you’re experiencing similar issues on your YouTube app, consider rolling back updates by following these steps:

  • Long press on the YouTube app icon to open settings and manage your account.
  • Go to App Information
  • Tap the three-dot menu within the top-right corner.
  • Uninstall all updates

Meanwhile, we will reach out to Google to determine whether they are aware of these problems and if a solution is in development.
