Customers who were blocked by an individual couldn’t view that person’s follower and following lists. The corporation has updated its website to remove this feature, allowing users to view not only the list of people they’ve blocked but also their followers’ and blockers’ lists in real-time.
The social platform emphasized that the block feature’s capacity to disseminate and withhold sensitive information about an individual could be leveraged to promote confidentiality, while its updated version aimed to foster greater transparency and accountability. This approach ultimately underperforms, as long as X allows users to privatize their profiles and disseminate sensitive data.
The introduction of X’s tackle-the-block approach diverges from conventional methods, sparking controversy as some claimed this shift would facilitate stalking and enable harassers to target customers with greater ease.
A software programme engineer and tech range advocate has developed a tool that enables customers to automate blocking, citing that even though customers may circumvent the block by creating alternative accounts, friction issues still arise.
“Simplifying the process for creeps to operate smoothly is hardly an effective strategy,” she said last month.
