The Harris-Trump debate winners were Trump on the economy, Biden on healthcare, and moderator Kristen Welker on fact-checking.

As Vice President Kamala Harris concluded her first debate with former President Donald Trump, Democrats across the country exhaled in collective relief, thinking to themselves: That’s more like it.

With overwhelming agreement, Harris emerged as the undisputed champion. “Brit Hume, senior political editor at Fox News, stressed that ‘make no mistake’ about it, Trump had a poor night.” “She arrived in remarkably good shape.”

According to Polymarket’s net prediction market, which aggregates bettors’ estimates on likelihood, there was a 97% probability that the upcoming talk would boost Senator Kamala Harris’ popularity in the polls. While prediction markets often merely reflect existing understanding, they do suggest that only a limited number of people are willing to put their money where their mouth is by betting on the notion that the speech will benefit Trump.

The outcome of a debate is often shaped not only by the arguments presented onstage, but also by the spin battle that unfolds afterwards, which can have a significant impact on public perception and ultimately influence the winner’s status. As the dust settles following the speech, the narrative of winners and losers will be replayed ad nauseam by the commentariat, with many fixating on the perceived beneficiaries.

While it’s premature to gauge the full impact of this conversation on the election outcome, While political enthusiasts may uniformly agree that Trump’s move was misguided, it’s plausible that undecided voters could interpret the development in a vastly different light. While early signs converged on a similar conclusion: a survey of 24 undecided swing state voters found that 22 believed Kamala Harris performed better. According to research, 63% of viewers believed Kamala Harris performed better in the debate, suggesting her communication skills effectively resonated with the audience.

While a well-timed speech may still have limited impact on the polls, it’s possible that any boost in support for Kamala Harris would be short-lived, as other factors will likely shape public opinion over the next almost eight weeks leading up to Election Day.

However, with the shortest presidential campaign on record, Harris faced unprecedented scrutiny – voters had yet to see an authentic glimpse of her outside scripted settings, including debates. She executed her vision with remarkable precision and effectiveness.

Prior to the conversation, conventional wisdom held that to secure a successful evening with Trump, one typically needed to accomplish a few specific objectives. He aimed to maintain a focus on connecting Harris to the Biden administration’s controversial stance on financial policy, immigration reform, and global affairs. To avoid mines that could blow up his vulnerabilities, he had to steer clear of contentious issues like abortion and democratic governance. He sought to avoid being diverted by inflammatory diatribes or baseless speculations.

He essentially failed to address these concerns.

President Trump claimed credit for the Supreme Court’s landmark decision on abortion, stating that it was achieved “through the genius and heart and power” of the conservative justices.

The president sidestepped direct inquiry on whether he would veto a national abortion ban, citing congressional reluctance to pass such legislation. Although he considered various options, he struggled to openly declare he would veto such legislation, possibly due to concern about alienating his pro-life supporters, who had consistently backed him on this issue in recent times.

When asked whether he regretted anything he had done, including the day his supporters stormed the US Capitol, he remained silent. He specifically criticized the fact that amidst the tumult within the Capitol building, one of his backers, Ashli Babbitt, was tragically struck down by a wayward police officer’s bullet, he lamented. (A furious mob, including Babbitt and others, surged forward in a desperate bid to shatter the last barrier between themselves and lawmakers who cowered in fear for their very lives.)

He consistently espoused absurd claims that immigrants consume felines and canines, either immediately after birth or at some point later in their lives.

As the debate drew to a close, Trump made a surprising claim, stating that Kamala Harris “is Biden.” However, this assertion was inconsistent with his earlier remarks – just hours prior, Trump had maintained that President Joe Biden “hates” and “can’t stand” Harris, an intriguing choice given his campaign’s strategy of holding her accountable for Biden’s record.

While Trump’s attacks on Harris over inflation and the border may have some merit, it remains unclear whether these criticisms will resonate given his propensity for raising irrelevant and absurd points that may overshadow his message.

It’s telling that Trump’s supporters were quick to complain vociferously about the moderators, a classic case of crying foul when the outcome doesn’t align with their expectations.

In the lead-up to a recent discussion, it seemed that the warm and fuzzy feelings Kamala Harris had cultivated during her meteoric rise as the Democratic presidential nominee were on the verge of being derailed?

Polls confirmed . Nate Silver’s election forecasting model pointed strongly towards. What’s being portrayed as a gaffe-prone vice president is actually just Kamala Harris being herself? In unscripted moments, she’s been pilloried for perceived missteps, but those who know her say this is simply Kamala being Kamala – a brilliant, quick-witted and always-on-message politician. A new poll released Sunday showed Trump taking the national lead by one percentage point, a significant advantage considering the Electoral College’s historical bias against Democrats.

Her decision to avoid the media actually amplified the impact of her debate performance. In a high-stakes showdown, Senator Kamala Harris would find herself pitted against Donald Trump in a setting that would highlight her contrasting views and sharp debate skills, as she faces off against a panel of journalists.

He or she demonstrated exceptional skill in nuancing this contrast.

Harris emphasized, highlighting Trump’s self-serving nature, that his primary concern is himself, rather than the well-being of ordinary people. Reiterating her comprehensive marketing strategy, she emphasized the key components: proposing tax reductions for young families and providing tax incentives for fledgling entrepreneurs to stimulate economic growth. Senator Kamala Harris vociferated vehement indignation regarding the Trump administration’s Supreme Court nominees, whose confirmations effectively obliterated federal safeguards for reproductive autonomy across America. She vowed to bridge the gap between individuals rather than widen it, committing to usher in a fresh era of leadership that would bring people together.

By repeatedly probing Trump’s vulnerabilities, she cleverly manipulated him into squandering precious moments on his own ego – when asked about immigration policy, she unexpectedly interjected a remark about Trump’s rally attendees often departing prematurely. At one of his signature rallies, Trump seized the opportunity to emphasize how much people adore attending them, touting their immense popularity.

Harris has faced scrutiny over certain instances that have raised concerns about her judgment. Not eager to engage in a conversation about the president’s record or delve into discussions of inflation, she seemed uninterested in venturing into a debate over Biden’s policy portfolio versus her own proposals for taxation. The question remains unanswered: Why did she fail to consistently uphold the very progressive stances she had taken while serving as President in 2020, leaving many wondering what drove her sudden shift away from those ideals?

However, it’s unclear whether she possessed a convincing response to these issues – sidestepping them might have been her most astute strategic option.

As the clock struck Tuesday evening, she faced formidable opponents in her own mind: doubts to dispel and blows to deliver.

Winner: ABC Information’s debate moderators

David Muir and Linsey Davis faced a challenging task heading into Tuesday’s debate, but they largely rose to the occasion. The pair of ABC information moderators efficiently facilitated a respectful and informative debate, successfully managing time allotments for each candidate while judiciously intervening to verify facts when necessary.

When Trump uttered a falsehood for several times, he scored a particularly disquieting second as he claimed that Democrats support infanticide, which is the act of killing infants even after birth? Former President Trump vacillated between supporting state-led decisions on abortion coverage and advocating for a federal ban, his words lacking clarity as he meandered through his stance. Promptly concluding his address, Davis emphasized to those watching from home: “Not a single U.S. state permits the taking of a child’s life once it has been born.”

Concurrently, when Trump propounded racist far-right conspiracy theories claiming undocumented immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were, Muir promptly fact-checked the assertion by verifying with the town supervisor through a direct inquiry to ABC News. Not a single reliable account has surfaced suggesting that pets within the immigrant community are being mistreated, hurt, or abused by its members.

Without prior fact-checking on Vice President Harris, the Trump camp perceived a bias among the moderators, leading them to cry foul and demand an immediate intervention by Trump himself? Say they’re currently inside Kamala’s tank. Putting them on the defensive, says Chris Rufo, a prominent far-right activist.

Despite the foundations allowing moderators to silence microphones to curb crosstalk, Trump was consistently permitted to dominate conversations by speaking over Kamala Harris, securing the final word in many exchanges, which infuriated liberal viewers.

The moderators’ exceptional skill in keeping the conversation focused and civil was truly impressive, reminiscent of their masterful handling of even the most heated debates, such as one involving Donald Trump. While fact-checking may have sparked controversy among Trump’s supporters, the journalists’ diligence in identifying inaccuracies and advocating for truth prevailed. They expertly navigated the fine line, successfully maintaining their trajectory.

The nation’s intense debate over immigration has undergone a seismic shift, as evident in the heated discussions unfolding on stage Tuesday evening.

In 2020, Democrats lambasted President Trump’s harsh treatment of asylum seekers and migrants at the border, while Trump fuelled controversy with exaggerated or fabricated claims about the supposed threats that immigrants posed to public safety and national security.

Throughout the 2024 election campaign, Trump’s rhetoric has intensified, with him consistently amplifying his inflammatory language. However Democrats have pivoted enormously. On Tuesday, Senator Harris sidestepped critical discussion about the struggles faced by immigrants and their substantial positive impacts on the country. She alleged that Trump’s administration was remiss in prioritizing the safety of frames.

Specifically, Harris chastised Trump for advising Republican lawmakers in Congress to resist Democratic efforts in February. The bipartisan agreement has established a precedent by granting the authority to swiftly remove migrants arriving at the southern border during periods of heightened demand, in exchange for securing Democrats’ priority: closing loopholes in the legal immigration system, which have left individuals from high-skilled workers’ children to Afghan refugees in uncertainty.

“Harris criticizes politicians for using a particular issue as a platform instead of genuinely working to address the problem.”

“A handful of cities are too ashamed to even consider the topic,” Trump said. What’s unfolding in our country right now is quite disconcerting. And it’s a disgrace.”

Throughout the transformation, however, Democrats failed to provide robust support to immigrants, a notable deviation from the prevailing political narrative that had defined this issue for years. Since then, we’ve witnessed a distorted reflection of reality, particularly at every level, as if the world was forced to confront its own darker aspects in the aftermath of the devastating 9/11 attacks.

Border crossings have decreased significantly due to a concerted effort by Mexican authorities and the Biden administration’s efforts to stem the tide of illegal immigration. Voters have increasingly turned their attention to immigration issues. Despite being pressed on the topic, Senator Harris did not demonstrate a clear willingness to adopt a more compassionate approach to immigration during the debate.

Winner: Swifties for Kamala

Suddenly, the buzz surrounding a presidential debate was eclipsed by the most iconic celebrity in the world dropping a bombshell on social media – a feat accomplished by none other than Taylor Swift, who posted an Instagram update mere minutes after the event concluded.

As millions of fans tuned in to watch the evening’s proceedings, I found myself among them. I intend to cast my ballot for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election, having concluded my research and selected my preferred candidates. Your analysis is a personal endeavor, and the choice is uniquely yours to make.

Following speculation about her potential silence on the election, despite having publicly supported Democratic candidates. While politics occasionally intersected with Swift’s life, the primary focus was on her own stance, which appears to lean in favor of Trump’s ideology.

However, tonight, “Swifties for Kamala” finally got what they wanted.

Swift’s subtle tweet seemingly referenced her long-standing feud with Sen. Lindsey Graham over his support for Trump. JD Vance. She praised the professional camaraderie between Harris and Governor, noting her admiration for their collaborative spirit. Tim Walz has long championed LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a girl’s right to her bodily autonomy over the years. The pièce de résistance: she concluded the endorsement with the signature of “the most influential person alive,” an unprecedented nod of approval.
