When will Apple unveil a fresh Apple TV model? Rumors point to…

Apple updated its Siri Remote in October 2022, unveiling a refreshed design featuring a more compact form factor, a switch from Lightning to USB-C connectivity, and a significant upgrade from the A12 processor to the A15 chip. Despite being over two years old, whispers about the next-generation model are emerging, but prospects appear uncertain.

Prior rumors

We had expected a revamp to take place last year, with our target being the first half of the period in question. Clearly, that didn’t occur. According to a recent Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, he noted that:

Despite initial rumors suggesting Apple might release an updated Apple TV set-top box by year’s end, there is no indication that a new model will be available anytime soon.

Despite initial expectations suggesting a product launch within the next year, it appears that a new release is still some time away. It appears Apple is satisfied with its current iPhone design, as it continues to manufacture and replenish stock without typically doing so when an update is imminent.

What’s driving the need for an entirely fresh start with Apple TV?

Why do so many people wonder if Apple really needs to update its operating system? While the A15 chip might suffice for fundamental TV requirements, there’s more at play in Apple’s desire to enhance the Apple TV.

  • Unlock lower price points to expand TV’s customer base?
  • Apple Intelligence
  • Gaming

Apple reduced the starting price of the model from $179 to $129 for its 2022 refresh. Notwithstanding analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s prediction, the industry should consider taking a further step towards affordability in the next refresh, potentially pricing it below $100.

The sweet spot for Apple TV’s price tag is likely to be under $100, making me predict that the next-generation model will be even more affordable.

Will Apple potentially introduce advancements in their next tech iteration, delivering an A18 processor? While the revamped Siri might not be significantly more effective on its own, it’s possible that Apple will enable paired HomePods to leverage the chip’s capabilities, thereby allowing existing HomePods to benefit from the updated Siri without necessitating a costly hardware upgrade.

Final however not least, gaming. Apple has partnered with numerous prominent game developers to bring high-performance gaming experiences to its iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. Notwithstanding, it had been disregarded from the equation. Apple may potentially develop a powerful GPU capable of handling numerous demanding video games, including those featuring ray tracing, although its willingness to pursue this approach remains uncertain.
