As Waymo’s autonomous vehicles hit the streets of Miami.

Waymo is launching its self-driving taxi service in Miami. By early 2025, Alphabet’s autonomous driving division announced plans to initiate street tests in Miami using their fleet of all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles. Waymo announces that its Waymo One robotaxi service will welcome riders in Miami by 2026, following a fleet partnership agreement with Moove.

Waymo has expanded its robotaxi fleet across multiple cities in 2024, including Phoenix and Tempe, where it now provides curbside service at Sky Harbor International Airport. The company has unveiled its latest robotic taxi, featuring an advanced sensor configuration designed to enhance performance while reducing costs. Waymo operates a robotaxi service in Austin, though it currently features a lengthy waitlist, with access restricted to a select few.

Recently, Waymo has removed its Los Angeles waitlist and expanded its self-driving taxi service to the general public. Eight months after introducing a limited robotaxi service in Los Angeles, Waymo experienced a significant change. By that time, roughly 300,000 people had subscribed to its waiting list. Throughout the metropolitan area, our service footprint encompasses the vibrant districts of Santa Monica, iconic Hollywood Boulevard, the University of Southern California campus, and a multitude of other destinations in between. 

Waymo has already been providing more than 150,000 weekly rides across Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Austin, showcasing the vast reach of its autonomous ride-hailing services.

Waymo companions with Moove

Moov is a pioneering African mobility fintech that offers innovative car financing solutions tailored specifically for the gig economy workforce. Moove is set to mark its first foray into the US market and collaborate with a leading autonomous vehicle company. Currently operational in various cities across Africa, the Middle East, India, and the UK, Moove boasts a significant presence, having secured over $400 million in funding.

Waymo has announced plans to launch its self-driving car service in Phoenix, Arizona, marking the company’s initial collaboration in this region. As part of a strategic partnership, Moove is poised to assume management responsibility for Waymo’s fleet operations, encompassing administrative oversight of services and charging infrastructure.

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with Moove in both Phoenix and subsequently Miami, combining their cutting-edge fleet management capabilities focused on mobility with our expanding Waymo One service,” said Ryan McNamara, Vice President of Operations at Waymo.

“Together, we will deliver secure, seamless travel experiences for passengers, scaling more efficiently and effectively in the future while ensuring ongoing security.”

In Phoenix and Miami, Waymo will provide its self-driving service through the Waymo One mobile application. The system will also be accountable for validating and operating the Waymo Driver in a safe and reliable manner.

Extra autonomous car developments

Waymo isn’t the sole company eager to bring autonomous driving capabilities to the United States. roads. Nuro successfully leveraged its autonomous technology in November by deploying zero-occupant vehicles equipped with the Nuro Driver system. The corporation highlights an expansion that encompasses multiple cities across two states, featuring significant operational advancements.

Nuro asserts that the widespread rollout of self-driving cars marks a significant milestone in developing capabilities for safely transporting people and goods. The company intends to expand its operations in Mountain View and Palo Alto, California, significantly increasing its deployment footprint by 83%. Nuro plans to expand its autonomous delivery footprint in Houston by a significant 70% increase in linear mileage. 

Moreover, Zoox has recently expanded its operations to California and Nevada. The company has commenced testing its robotaxi fleet in San Francisco and broadened the autonomous driving perimeter in Las Vegas. Zoox aims to launch its public ride service in Las Vegas by early 2025, having previously focused on metropolitan areas.
