The Zero Belief Community Safety initiative is a vital concept built on the fundamental principle that all programs should be designed with “Safety as the Default” in mind.

Bastion by default

To reinforce our commitment to providing a secure foundation for our clients, I’m pleased to highlight our recent initiative: Bastion services are widely used by customers in Azure to enable secure remote access to virtual machines (VMs) through distant desktop (RDP) and safe shell (SSH) connections, without exposing them directly to the public internet. This achievement was made possible through a thoroughly managed and dedicated Bastion server operating within the digital ecosystem. With the Bastion Developer SKU, we’re offering a ‘priceless’ solution that empowers customers to establish a secure one-click connection to a single virtual machine at a time, without exposing public IP addresses on the VMs. The Bastion Developer SKU leverages a shared pool of internal Microsoft-managed sources to ensure secure connections between virtual machines. Customers can instantly access their virtual machines via the Join experience on the VM blade in the Azure portal, featuring support for RDP/SSH and SSH-only for command-line interface sessions. Bastion Developer offers secure virtual machine connections without additional features, configurations, or scalability requirements, all at a fixed cost.

Digital community encryption

As industries reliant on sensitive data, such as finance, healthcare, and government, rapidly evolve, an unwavering commitment to robust community security is imperative to safeguard confidential information and ensure regulatory adherence. Azure addresses this need by providing an environmentally friendly solution for encrypting communications between virtual machines within a digital network. Across all public Azure regions, this feature now boasts seamless accessibility, marking a significant milestone in secure community design that empowers organizations to safeguard data in transit between virtual machines without compromising efficiency or agility.

Digital community encryption securely utilizes the host’s infrastructure to encrypt data, thereby enabling efficient processing. Azure leverages Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) to seamlessly integrate cutting-edge security with accelerated processing, thereby ensuring the swift and uninterrupted flow of encrypted data across the network while maintaining overall system performance.

DNSSEC

Alongside comparable strains, we are thrilled to announce the Clients can effortlessly enable DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) for their Domain Name System (DNS) settings through a straightforward opt-in process accessible via both the client portal and API. DNSSEC is a crucial security feature that significantly improves online security by mitigating risks such as cache poisoning and man-in-the-middle attacks, ultimately safeguarding our customers’ data. DNSSEC provides an additional layer of security by ensuring the integrity and authenticity of DNS responses, thereby protecting against a wide range of cyber threats. Additionally, numerous countries are mandating the adoption of DNSSEC, highlighting its critical role in ensuring global cybersecurity compliance. Azure DNS fortifies its DNS services with DNSSEC, providing businesses with reliable and secure domain name resolution capabilities, allowing them to operate with greater assurance in a trustworthy digital environment. 

 We’re steadfastly committed to delivering a globally exceptional, robust, and reliable community infrastructure that empowers our clients’ most critical workloads. I highlight several key improvements within our platform that reinforce our commitment.

ExpressRoute: Boosting Resilience and Unyielding Availability

In today’s cloud-driven environment, ensuring robust and reliable connectivity is crucial, particularly for companies reliant on mission-critical operations. Azure ExpressRoute offers secure, high-bandwidth connections between on-premise networks and Microsoft Azure, circumventing the general internet and ensuring low-latency, consistent performance for mission-critical applications?

To further enhance reliability, we are pleased to announce that this feature is now readily available. The Metro SKU ensures redundant coverage across multiple edge sites within the same metropolitan area, safeguarding against potential disruptions at any individual location. This multi-site design enables organisations to build highly available community infrastructures that remain functional even in the event of a sudden outage on a single edge site.

With ExpressRoute, organizations requiring additional failover redundancy can establish two independent paths to each edge location and subsequently ensure four diverse paths to Azure. Reliable and consistent connectivity is a priceless asset in high-stakes industries such as finance, healthcare, and e-commerce, where seamless communication ensures regulatory compliance and maintains business continuity.

Azure now simplifies the implementation of multi-site ExpressRoute with a straightforward solution. By introducing this innovative feature in the Azure portal, Microsoft empowers customers to visualize their dynamic topology and receive data-driven recommendations for optimizing website configurations, thereby enabling informed decisions for robust community deployments.

Azure Load Balancer: Improved manageability

As a core component within the networking ecosystem, is a cloud-born, high-performance network load balancer that’s widely employed in customer environments. As we strive to elevate the usability, scalability, and relevance of our solutions to meet the dynamic needs of our customers, several upcoming updates in this area will significantly streamline the management of our load balancers, ultimately leading to improved efficiency and performance.

The introduction of the “Admin State” feature in Load Balancer’s latest “Admin State” performance empowers users to label a backend instance as healthy or unhealthy, thereby influencing the routing of traffic to that instance. The status of a load balancer’s backend servers is typically managed through the implementation of health probes. Despite this, clients are required to explicitly opt-out and override their well-being status to remove a VM instance from rotation for maintenance, upgrades, or security patching, or for any other customer requirements. By leveraging API calls or a simple one-click mechanism within the client portal, users can effortlessly flag events as compromised, allowing for swift notification and mitigation through NSG guidelines and response logic. To further bolster backend wellness transparency, we’re introducing an advanced “Load Balancer Health Status” feature, which provides granular insights into event health, covering both user- and platform-driven root cause codes.

The admin state and cargo balancer well-being standing are now typically available in all public cloud regions, Azure China cloud regions, and Azure Government cloud regions.

Across multiple Azure subscriptions and virtual networks, clients’ properties are often dispersed, requiring management from various teams and departments. While clients initially subscribe to a single source of information, they often find the experience limiting for building complex software topologies, especially when using foundational tools like load balancers and encountering the need for more comprehensive data access. Azure load balancers ensure seamless availability by enabling cross-subscription utilization across public IP addresses, load balancer resources, and backend instances, thereby guaranteeing uninterrupted service performance. This shared subscription enables more efficient resource allocation and minimizes redundancy.

As organisations scale their cloud infrastructure to support development, they need community solutions that not only expand capabilities but also ensure environmentally sustainable, reliable, and secure connectivity options. Microsoft Azure’s ongoing innovations in digital community management respond effectively by providing robust tools for scalable IP solutions, efficient address management, and advanced network verification capabilities?

Digital Community Ip Tackle

The Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) cluster seamlessly accommodates the allocation of approximately 65,000 routable Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to scale sets, machine pods, and individual digital machines, fostering a robust digital community. While this restriction is sufficient for many Azure customers, some cloud-native clients necessitate larger scalability to accommodate immediate demands and frequent scale-up and scale-down operations. Azure is pleased to introduce a new feature in preview: “IP Prefix on the Community Interface Card” (NIC), which enables seamless handling of this functionality. This skill enables administrators to append an additional /28 prefix to the Network Interface Card (NIC), in conjunction with a primary /32 IP address. This enhancement enables an NIC to support up to 16 additional IP addresses, effectively doubling its original capacity.

Digital Community IP tackle supervisor

As organizations leverage additional IP addresses in Azure to optimize their infrastructure, a robust IP address management system becomes increasingly crucial? We are fully committed to operating in all public cloud environments. IP Address Management (IPAM) enables organizations to streamline the management of their IP address pools, simplifying planning, allocation, overlap avoidance, and utilization monitoring for IP block assignments. Clients can effectively utilize automated IP address allocation for newly established digital networks, ensuring seamless uniqueness and minimizing waste through this efficient process. IPAM offers comprehensive management by also monitoring IP allocations outside of Azure, providing a complete solution. IP Address Management (IPAM) efficiently manages both IPv4 and IPv6 address spaces by effectively handling prefix assignments.

Digital community verifier

As clients scale their Azure environments, the difficulty of debugging and troubleshooting community connectivity points escalates significantly. Azure Community Monitoring and Community Watcher provides real-time diagnostic tools for timely issue resolution. The Azure Digital Community Supervisor’s digital community verifier system, currently available in preview across all public cloud regions, introduces an additional layer of efficiency through a static assessment of packet movement based on configuration and network adjustment settings. By validating packet flows prior to deploying configuration changes, clients can proactively mitigate the risk of connection disruptions and minimize packet loss.
