Two new Apple foldable devices are reportedly on the horizon, with a release window set for 2026, according to a recent industry insider.

According to recent reports, Apple has been working on a clamshell foldable iPhone, internally codenamed V68. When opened, this device transforms into a conventional iPhone model, boasting similar design and dimensions to its non-foldable counterparts. What a delightful little origami? We previously reported on foldable Apple devices, predicting the launch of the clamshell iPhone, codenamed the iPhone Flip, for 2026, with the foldable iPad and Mac expected to follow a year later in 2027.

According to a newly released report by Haitong Securities analyst Jeff Pu, We can further streamline this statement to reveal: As Pu noted, Apple plans to debut its foldable iPad/Mac hybrid in Q2 2026. The foldable iPhone may debut at the top of the 12-month period. Apple is expected to enter the foldable market with caution, delayed by concerns over the durability of displays in these devices.
Earlier in 2022, reports surfaced that Apple had developed two distinct iPhone prototypes. A potential iPhone design explored two distinct approaches: one resembled a book-style foldable similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, while the other echoed the clamshell layout of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip lineup. Since Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip smartphones have consistently been a hit year after year, it’s no surprise that Apple has decided to.

The clamshell design could harmonize with the primary foldable iPhone’s debut.

Would a foldable clamshell iPhone primarily need to vie with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 8 in 2026, or might it also contend against the Motorola Razr (2026) and its upgraded variant, the Razr+, as they enter the market? Rivals emerging from China may opt for revamped iterations of the Vivo X Flip and Xiaomi Mix Flip.
