Following my previous correspondence with you on this matter, I recommended exploring innovative ideas and approaches to address global challenges, ultimately supporting the MIT community in tackling pressing international issues. Given that collaboration’s success, we have since founded a pioneering initiative, anchoring it in the people-centric disciplines encompassing our School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. We’re calling it the .
MITHIC is a testament to the excellence of our institution across various disciplines, underscoring our profound appreciation for academic and artistic pursuits that foster a deeper comprehension of humanity’s most pressing concerns.
By empowering students in human-centered fields to “scale up,” MITHIC fosters innovative thinking by providing resources for exploring bold ideas, facilitating collaboration among peers, and offering fresh perspectives on student education.
We marked the inaugural launch of MITHIC with a stunning display of artistic virtuosity. At MIT’s signature event, experts merged the humanities with technology, sparking innovative insights. In a lively impromptu session, undergraduate students showcased their improvisational skills on jazz saxophone, while celebrated author Min Jin Lee delivered a thought-provoking keynote address, emphasizing the importance of human-centric storytelling in her work.
Our school is splendidly energized by MITHIC, with over 100 participants having already engaged in half-day sessions within the collaborative’s “Assembly of the Minds” events, which bring together researchers across the Institute who share common interests – from cybersecurity and food safety to climate simulations and bioeconomics.
In this era of unprecedented technological advancements, there is arguably no more critical moment for humanity to make compassionate choices regarding emerging innovations.
As I’m delighted to report, MIT has fostered a unique collaboration, harnessing the power of human perception, to support students, young scholars, explorers, and innovators as they strive to chart a course for knowledge that serves humanity’s greater good.
