The man suspected of taking compromising photos of UnitedHealthcare CEO Stephen Lieber didn’t allegedly abandon his bike and make a getaway on a Citi Bike.

According to an unidentified law enforcement source, the individual responsible for shooting and killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside the Hilton hotel in midtown Manhattan allegedly fled the scene on an electric bicycle, but not one provided by Citi Bike, as previously stated by NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenney.

Thompson had been slated to appear at the firm’s investor conference, which was subsequently cancelled just hours beforehand. According to Kenney, the CEO’s description of the killer resembled Thompson, a man “particularly focused” on his goal. He noted that at this point in the investigation, it was unclear what motivated the individual. The CEO’s spouse, Paulette Thompson, revealed that there had been previous threats.

Prior to the incident, Lyft spokesperson Eric Smith stated the company was prepared to assist law enforcement in any capacity. It’s worth noting that if the shooter had used one of Lyft’s bikes, the ride-hailing platform might have left a digital trail and GPS data as the individual rented or utilized the vehicle, potentially aiding authorities in their investigation.

According to multiple sources cited by CNN, authorities have obtained updates indicating that investigators are analyzing evidence collected from the path the assailant took after the attack, including photographs and physical items such as a bottle of water, along with two PowerBars, which were purchased at a Starbucks just prior to the assault. Additionally, they recalled seeing police personnel early that morning, apparently transporting what appeared to be a rechargeable battery for an electric bicycle.

According to eyewitnesses, the distinctive element of the attacker’s backpack was its distinctive design, specifically a Peak Design product featuring a charcoal or ash hue, discernible due to its shape, color, and visible straps in the footage taken at Starbucks.

The NYPD released images of the gunman, including one individual riding a bicycle, and appealed to the public for any information regarding their identity or whereabouts, urging anyone with tips to contact them at 1-800-577-TIPS. Police officers were seen canvassing the area around the Citi Bike kiosk at the intersection of Madison Avenue and 82nd Street in Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon.
