With Hollywood’s stars shining bright, they’ve made a significant impact on the small screen with numerous TV shows over the years. As the second season concluded on Paramount+ in June, another new installment appears poised to take flight.
Earlier this week, anime studio Trigger, renowned for their work on Little Witch Academia and Kill la Kill, announced they were collaborating on a project to celebrate the iconic toy brand’s milestone achievement. The Transformers franchise’s Robots in Disguise celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, with a brief teaser offering fleeting peeks at iconic characters Optimus Prime and Megatron, along with Bumblebee and Sizzling Rod, both showcasing their classic Generation One (G1) iterations and Setoff’s reinterpreted designs. It appears that Optimus Prime has been spotted! While details on Set off’s latest project, whether it be a casual celebration video or something more substantial like the introduction to an unannounced game, are currently under wraps.
While animation has consistently thrived throughout the franchise’s history, this marks a notable third foray into precise anime, with previous attempts occurring in 2005 and 2015, both of which were limited to Japan alone? Conversely, Set Off isn’t a newcomer to the mecha genre; since 2018, they’ve been laboring on mecha projects under the company’s umbrella. With the studio’s impressive track record, anticipation builds for their contribution to the franchise’s milestone celebration – undoubtedly a visually stunning achievement.
While we eagerly anticipate additional information about this enigmatic venture, we may find solace in indulging our cravings for high-quality animated content within the beloved franchise. The highly anticipated film premieres in theaters on September 20; stay tuned for our comprehensive review closer to the release date.
