Snap has reportedly launched its latest pair of augmented reality (AR) Spectacles.

Snap is poised to unveil its latest innovation – a revolutionary pair of augmented reality glasses – according to a recent report in [source]. The new glasses can represent the fifth generation of Spectacles, marking a second iteration that incorporates augmented reality features. At an upcoming event, CEO Evan Spiegel is expected to reveal the highly anticipated smart glasses during Snap’s prestigious Companion Summit, set to take place on September 17.

The tech giant has unveiled its latest innovation: a cutting-edge pair of augmented reality (AR) glasses. Developers had produced these glasses exclusively for a limited group of innovators and builders, who concocted captivating experiments by fusing Snapchat’s iconic lenses with augmented reality displays. However, after becoming famous for my work with AR-enabled Spectacles over the past 12 months, the system remained relatively limited. The device was hampered by a limited perspective and a meagre 30-minute power supply. The latest iteration of Spectacles featured significantly larger and more angular frames compared to their predecessors, which resembled standard sunglasses.

The AR-capable Spectacles are much thicker and heavier than their predecessors.

It seems that Snap has undertaken significant advancements in its fundamental technology infrastructure. Experience suggests that the latest pair of glasses may boast an expanded field of vision and impress with prolonged battery life. Although touted as an accessible offering, the Spectacles seem primarily geared towards developers rather than your average Snapchat user. According to reports, each Spectacle reportedly costs hundreds of dollars to produce, with Snap set to manufacture fewer than 10,000 units.

Despite this setback, Snap still hasn’t entirely abandoned its hardware aspirations. Its final new product was the $250 Pixy selfie drone, unveiled just four months after its initial launch in 2022. The company recalled its system earlier this year following a reported battery fire.
