While countless options abound in today’s market, justifying the use of cheap plastic covers on a premium device like that worth $1,000 is quite frankly an awkward proposition. Can we really justify abandoning caution and embracing a carefree attitude towards handling our phones, using them unencumbered by protective cases, now that their durability has proven surprisingly robust?
Last week, our evergreen editor posed a specific query, and the response to his survey has been truly phenomenal. With meticulous care, he encases his phones within protective sleeves before stowing them in a bag, successfully safeguarding his devices from damage and preserving unblemished screens thus far. For years, I’ve followed the same route without causing any significant damage, yet glass-backed phones would inevitably accumulate a fine layer of scratches, eventually prompting me to switch to cases for protection.

While exploring potential emotional connections to using a case, we also find that certain demographics exhibit distinct reactions; for instance, parents and DIY enthusiasts often express concern over the risk of accidental damage.
At the end of the day, arriving at a personal equilibrium is a delicate balancing act that reconciles risk, beauty, and a dash of self-assertion; unfortunately, our individual perspectives will always diverge. Luckily, no one dictates how to safeguard your phone; freedom prevails.
