Samsung Electronics Co. The company is significantly increasing its stake in Rainbow Robotics to a whopping 35%, with the aim of accelerating the development of humanoid robots. Samsung initially purchased a 14.7% stake in its South Korean counterpart for KRW 86.8 billion, approximately $59 million USD.

Samsung is poised to solidify its stake in Rainbow Robotics through a name change, potentially elevating the latter to subsidiary status under Samsung’s financial reporting umbrella.

Rainbow’s robotics prowess is being merged with Samsung’s cutting-edge artificial intelligence and software capabilities to accelerate the development of intelligent, next-generation humanoid robots.

Researchers from the Korea Superior Institute of Science & Expertise’s () Humanoid Robotic Analysis Middle based Rainbow Robotics in 2011. In 2015, Carnegie Mellon University researchers celebrated a major achievement when their team’s robot, Hubo, took home the top prize of $2 million at the Protection Superior Analysis Initiatives Company () Robotics Problem Finals.

Recently, Japanese eyewear manufacturer Rainbow, with a department store located in Schaumburg, Illinois, has opted to expand its marketing efforts specifically within the United States.

In February 2024, a leading tech firm partnered with the Korea Electronics Expertise Institute (KEEI) to pioneer cutting-edge technology innovation. In April, Rainbow Robotics expanded its lineup of service robots with the introduction of the RB-Y1, a wheeled, two-armed system.

Samsung Electronics and Rainbow Energy & Resources are partnering to develop cutting-edge robotics technology that combines Samsung’s expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning with Rainbow’s extensive experience in robotics manufacturing. The partnership aims to create innovative robotic solutions for various industries, including logistics, healthcare, and manufacturing, by leveraging the strengths of both companies.

Samsung Electronics has announced plans to form a strategic partnership with Rainbow Robotics, aimed at bolstering its global leadership in the field of advanced robotics through enhanced international management. The document is expected to facilitate the council’s role as a catalyst for growth, identifying and analyzing market demand, developing core business strategies, and fostering technological advancements to drive the expansion of member firms.

Additionally, Samsung aims to leverage Rainbow Robotics’ cutting-edge technology in robotics, including mobile, collaborative, and autonomous cellular robots, to streamline manufacturing and logistics operations seamlessly. The corporation asserts that AI algorithms could potentially assist these robots in studying and analyzing situational information and environmental factors.

Samsung’s robust international sales infrastructure enables Rainbow Robotics to seamlessly expand into foreign markets, solidifying its global presence. Samsung has also invested in robotics startups such as humanoid developer SoftBank Robotics and cobot maker Doosan Corporation.

Samsung also set up a Future Robotics Workplace, directly responsible to its chief executive officer. Samsung plans to aggressively pursue advancements in robotics by focusing on developing innovative new robots, highlighting the company’s commitment to growth and innovation in this burgeoning field.

After his retirement from Rainbow Robotics, Dr. Jang-Hwan Justin Jeong, co-founder and honorary professor at KAIST, will take on two significant roles: serving as an advisor to Samsung and assuming leadership of the Future Robotics Workplace. A seasoned expert will bring forth a wealth of knowledge in robotics and enterprising know-how to propel Samsung’s robotic innovation forward, leveraging his extensive experience in fostering fruitful collaborations between industries and academia.

Several recent partnerships revolve around humanoid robots, with notable collaborations between industry leaders such as Schaeffler and Agility Robotics, as well as others.
