Rivian’s electric vehicles have taken the top spot in a Shopper Studies reliability assessment.

According to a new report from Shopper Studies, Subaru takes the top spot in a surprising but not unexpected turn of events. What may raise eyebrows is that despite being named one of the most beloved automotive brands by consumers, Rivian’s electric vehicles have been met with lukewarm enthusiasm, a reality that might come as a surprise to some given their high-profile launch and innovative features.

Rivian’s SUV and pickup reportedly fell short of industry standards in terms of reliability, with performance significantly below that of comparable vehicles from other manufacturers. While the corporation’s EVs received mixed reviews, surprisingly, so did Ford’s F-150 Lightning, alongside Cadillac’s Lyriq and Chevrolet’s model.

Studies have shown that shoppers struggle with concerns surrounding the electric motors, batteries, and charging systems of these EVs. Prospects also struggle with mastering the advanced technology in the cabin, such as complex touchscreen-based infotainment systems. The outlet acknowledged its limited expertise in evaluating electric vehicles (EVs), specifically noting that it lacked sufficient knowledge to render a verdict on up-and-coming brands like Lucid Motors, as well as established luxury marques such as Porsche and Polestar.

According to General, Shopper Studies reveals that Electric Vehicles (EVs) are demonstrating a notable improvement in reliability. While some models performed well, including Ford’s Mustang Mach-E, Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y were more typical in terms of reliability. Despite offering numerous benefits, all-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids still pose more concerns for homeowners compared to traditional hybrid cars or those powered by internal combustion engines.
