Around a year ago, Chinese robotics company Unitree drew attention for its remarkable robotic dog’s acrobatic feats and advanced GPT-enabled chat functions, all packaged in a $1,600 second-generation model. The corporation has unveiled a state-of-the-art, all-terrain improvement program.
While robotic quadrupeds may be innovative, versatile, and potentially transformative, padding around on all fours may not be suitable for all environments? Sometimes, simplification is a viable option, as exemplified by the success of entities such as Netflix and Amazon. Now, Unitree has expanded its wheeled robotics lineup with the introduction of the Go2-W.
The video showcases a novel wheeled bot adopting an assertive stance when faced with its non-wheeled counterpart, demonstrating what appears to be a speed advantage in a head-to-head sprint – despite the official specs indicating identical top speeds of 5.6 mph (2.5 m/s) for both models.
Unitree Go2 New Improve
Like the Go2, the W variant leverages advanced sensor capabilities, combining super-wide-angle LiDAR with wide-angle visual cameras to provide a comprehensive view of its surroundings. It also features an octa-core processor, along with Wi-Fi, 4G, and Bluetooth wireless connectivity options. The device boasts a substantial 15,000-mAh battery, capable of delivering up to four hours of uninterrupted performance before needing a recharge. Furthermore, it features rapid charging capabilities, allowing users to quickly refuel and minimize downtime.
Here’s an improved version:
The Go2-W features interchangeable pads at the end of each leg, which are mounted on a motorized wheel sporting a 7-inch pneumatic tire, enabling smooth landings on flat surfaces and allowing for precise adjustment of attack angles to navigate minor bumps. When traversing challenging terrain, navigating stairs, or executing complex movements such as balancing on its entrance legs, the robot’s wheels may be locked into place to enable a strolling gait.
The Robodog is now prepared to transport payloads of approximately 6.6 pounds, boasting a slightly taller stature than the Go2 at 27.6 inches and tipping the scales at around 40 pounds. The entrance lighting system is designed to facilitate nighttime operations, complemented by voice control capabilities that mirror those of the built-in GPT engine found in the non-wheel variant.
Unitree has yet to disclose pricing and availability details.
