Cyber threat is inevitable. In today’s dynamic business environment, the objective should no longer be solely to eliminate risk, but rather to proactively manage and mitigate its impact as efficiently as possible. Two primary approaches to mitigating cybersecurity risks involve the deployment of robust cyber controls, coupled with behavioral modifications among individuals, as well as the utilization of cyber insurance policies to provide financial protection in the event of a breach. As interdependent strategies, robust controls curtail threats, thereby paving the way for affordable insurance options, while inadequate controls escalate risks, making it challenging to secure reasonably priced coverage.

Currently, our book prints a comprehensive analysis of this connection. According to a recent, impartial survey of 5,000 IT leaders, the trend of cyber insurance adoption is particularly notable among mid-market organizations.

Govt abstract

In light of the looming threat of cyberattacks, embracing a comprehensive strategy for cyber threat management that harmonizes cybersecurity defenses with cyber insurance will empower organisations to reduce their overall total cost of ownership (TCO) of cyber threat management while minimising the risk of a catastrophic event occurring?

Investing in robust cyber defenses not only streamlines the process of securing insurance coverage at a lower cost, but also enhances overall security posture and alleviates IT burdens by reducing the administrative workload. Discovering that comprehensive approaches are more effective in mitigating cyber threats highlights the importance of considering cybersecurity investments in a holistic manner rather than isolating individual components?

A significant area of concern identified through the survey is the risk that coverage purchases may not be adequately aligned with the actual needs and requirements of enterprises. Cyberinsurance coverage is a vital investment, requiring policies to accurately cover the right risks. All relevant stakeholders, including IT and cybersecurity professionals, must be actively engaged in choosing insurance options that cater to their specific needs and requirements.

Cyberinsurance coverage has become increasingly ubiquitous.

According to the survey, a significant majority of companies with 100-5,000 employees have implemented extensive cyber insurance coverage, with an astonishing 90% of organisations having some form of cyber protection in place. Fifty percent of companies possess standalone cyber insurance coverage, whereas forty percent include it as an integral component within their comprehensive enterprise insurance coverage, often encompassing general liability coverage. Adoption rates vary significantly across the 14 countries studied, with Singapore exhibiting the highest adoption propensity overall.

Cyberattacks are often the primary reason why enterprises adopt insurance coverage.

Cyber insurance coverage is pursued by organisations for a diverse array of reasons, with nearly half (48%) identifying regulatory compliance as their primary driver. Forty-five percent of respondents reported a satisfactory experience, while forty-two percent noted that they had encountered.

Investors are increasingly prioritizing cybersecurity measures as a strategic move to secure optimal insurance coverage, and the results are paying off.

After a year of investing in cybersecurity, nearly 97 percent of companies that purchased cyber insurance saw significant improvements in their digital defenses, ensuring they maximized the value of their policy. Approximately two-thirds of respondents made their primary investment, while roughly one-third invested in smaller proportions.

The investment in cybersecurity has yielded positive results, with nearly every company that strengthened its defenses reporting a favorable impact on their cyber insurance premiums (99.6%, with 4,351 of 4,370 firms surveyed experiencing this outcome).

The surge in cyber insurance premiums is prompting companies to boost their cybersecurity measures, a trend evident among 76% of respondents who have invested in security solutions to compensate for the lack of alternative coverage options. Two-thirds of policyholders enjoyed cost-effective insurance options, with 67% able to secure better coverage at reduced prices. Meanwhile, 30% reaped the rewards of enhanced driving records, garnering improved policy terms and increased protection limits as a result.

In addition to securing better insurance rates, organizations that prioritize safety also enjoyed a range of other benefits. Ninety-nine percent of respondents highlighted broader benefits, including enhanced security, reduced notifications, and a lighter IT burden.

Insurers generally honour claims to some extent.

While organizations that invest in cyber insurance may initially feel reassured knowing that most insurers typically do pay out on claims, one respondent’s experience serves as a stark reminder: even then, there is always the risk of a total rejection.

Concurrently, a staggering 99% of insurance claims failed to cover the full extent of the incident’s expenses. On average, total insurers settled claims for around 63% of the full incident value, while the most common settlement amount fell within the 71-80% range.

Factors influencing the uncoated price of a product?

Cyberattack restoration costs are increasingly outstripping the available insurance coverage. The primary reason (63%) why restoration invoices were not fully settled was that. As Sophos’ ransomware incident restoration costs have risen by 50% over the past year, it is likely that this significant increase will cause a misalignment between insurance coverage and actual expenses.

There remains considerable ambiguity surrounding which insurance policies provide coverage in the event of a cyber incident.

Are many cybersecurity/IT leaders unclear about the scope of their insurance coverage in the event of a cyberattack? Despite the coverage provided, uncertainty remains as to whether 60% of claims cover ransom payments or revenue losses. These findings serve as a stark warning signal across multiple spectrums.

  1. Firms are left vulnerable to unexpected expenses, with a staggering 45% of those surveyed revealing that a portion of their incident costs went uncompensated due to inadequate insurance coverage.
  2. Organizations frequently struggle to receive the expected assistance in the aftermath of a disaster.

As a direct result of the lack of transparency regarding coverage protection, at least some of the consequences likely stem from a disconnection between those purchasing the coverage and individuals on the frontlines who would need to respond in the event of a significant incident?

In this conclusion, we’ll distill the key takeaways and top recommendations from throughout our series, providing guidance on how to embark on your own zero-trust journey. Additionally, we will concentrate on prevalent hurdles and obstacles to sidestep, offering relevant resources for further learning and discovery.

What are the most effective strategies for implementing a zero trust model that ensures seamless security and productivity?

To start, it’s essential to understand that zero trust is all about verifying the identity of every user and device on your network before granting access. This approach eliminates the concept of a “trusted” zone, as every connection is treated with suspicion until proven otherwise.

When designing a zero trust architecture, consider the following key insights:

* Implement a robust authentication process that incorporates multiple factors such as passwords, biometrics, and behavioral analysis.
* Use machine learning algorithms to continuously monitor user behavior and identify potential threats.
* Segment your network into micro-segments that are isolated from each other by default, and only grant access based on need-to-know principles.

To ensure the successful implementation of zero trust, follow these finest practices:

* Develop a comprehensive security policy that outlines the rules and guidelines for accessing sensitive data and systems.
* Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities and develop mitigation strategies.
* Collaborate with your IT team to implement zero trust architecture and integrate it seamlessly into your existing infrastructure.

By embracing these key insights and finest practices, you can build a robust zero trust model that provides unparalleled security and peace of mind for your organization.

Here are the key insights and best practices aligned throughout this series:

  1. Zero trust is not a one-size-fits-all solution or methodology, but rather a comprehensive approach to security that presumes no implicit trust and continuously authenticates every incoming request.
  2. Defining the paramount objective of zero-trust architecture, defending delicate knowledge demands a harmonious blend of data discovery, categorization, encryption, and access control measures.
  3. In a zero-trust model, identity becomes the primary control point at entry, necessitating robust authentication, strict authorization, and continuous monitoring to ensure seamless access and maintain security.
  4. Segmenting networks into smaller, remotely manageable zones based primarily on knowledge sensitivity and user roles is crucial for reducing the attack surface and restricting lateral movement.
  5. Securing endpoints and Internet of Things (IoT) units necessitates a harmonious collaboration among IT professionals, safety experts, and end-users, involving a blend of system administration, robust authentication protocols, and continuous monitoring mechanisms.
  6. To ensure secure utility architectures, it’s crucial to adopt a proactive approach that embeds safety considerations throughout the development process, incorporating techniques such as safe coding practices, real-time threat detection, and robust API management.

Organizations can build a more comprehensive, efficient, and business-aligned zero-trust framework by considering these key insights and best practices.

Starting Your Zero-Belief Odyssey

Implementing zero trust is a continuous process, rather than a one-off endeavor, demanding meticulous planning, careful execution, and sustained refinement throughout its lifecycle. To start your journey, follow these initial steps:

  1. Conduct a rigorous assessment of your current safety culture, incorporating evaluations of your community framework, knowledge exchange mechanisms, individual responsibilities, and safety protocols. Identify and prioritise areas for enhancement based on risk and business impact?
  2. Develop a comprehensive Zero-Based Budgeting approach aligned with the company’s objectives and risk tolerance by thoroughly evaluating current operations and identifying opportunities for cost optimization. Establish crucial objectives, key accomplishments, and measurable outcomes to garner endorsement from all stakeholders within the organization.

  3. Start by launching targeted pilot projects that yield quick results and build traction for broader adoption. Address pressing use scenarios and safeguard intellectual property rights immediately, then methodically expand into distinct regions of the environment.
  4. Where feasible, build upon existing security investments and tools, such as identity and access management, network segmentation, and endpoint security measures. Integrate these instruments seamlessly within my framework to streamline processes where feasible, leveraging automation and orchestration for maximum efficiency.
  5. Educate staff, companions, and prospects on the principles and benefits of zero-trust architecture, encouraging active participation, and cultivate a culture of collective responsibility and transparency to prioritize workplace safety.
  6. Regularly scrutinize and assess the efficacy of your zero-trust frameworks and protocols, leveraging key performance indicators such as threat mitigation rate, average incident response time, and end-user satisfaction rates? Continuously refine and streamline your zero-trust architecture as you gather new insights.

By adhering to established best practices and proven methodologies throughout this process, organizations can successfully build a robust, resilient, and strategically aligned zero-trust framework that effectively adapts to the dynamic and evolving risk landscape.

Effective Mitigation Strategies for Overcoming Pervasive Hurdles

While a zero-trust approach offers numerous benefits, it also poses significant challenges and potential pitfalls that organizations must carefully consider and navigate to ensure successful implementation.

  1. Without a clear and comprehensive approach that harmonizes with the organization’s objectives and risk appetite, zero-trust projects are prone to becoming disjointed, incoherent, and ultimately ineffectual.
  2. While knowledge and expertise are crucial for fostering trust, they alone do not guarantee success in achieving zero-belief status. Organizations must proactively address people, processes, and policies to establish a comprehensive and seamless zero-trust framework.
  3. Without comprehensive visibility and control across people, systems, and utilities, organisations struggle to identify and respond to threats in a timely and effective manner.
  4. As zero-belief initiatives evolve and mature, they will quickly transform into complex and challenging entities to manage at scale? Organisations should invest in automation, orchestration, and centralised administration to ensure consistent and environmentally sustainable safety operations throughout.
  5. Zero-belief models signify a paradigmatic departure from traditional perimeter-based security paradigms, potentially encountering skepticism from clients, contractors, and organisational constituents. Fostering a culture of zero tolerance requires organisations to invest in effective training, communication and administrative frameworks that garner the active support and commitment of all stakeholders.

By proactively addressing the pervasive obstacles and pitfalls inherent in zero-trust initiatives, organizations can build a more successful and enduring framework that drives profitability and sustainability.

Conclusion

Believing zero doesn’t equate to a relaxing getaway; instead, it’s an arduous path. Through consistent validation and continuous enhancement, organisations can establish a robust, adaptable, and commercially-focused security posture, capable of keeping pace with the dynamic risk landscape.

Notwithstanding, achieving zero belief is no straightforward feat, necessitating significant investments in personnel, procedures, and expertise. Organisations must be prepared to confront challenges and setbacks head-on, whilst continuously learning and adapting in response to fresh insights and experiences.

Joanne Molesky

Spouse of the co-author of Lean Enterprise, Barbara Kopan.

My initial career path was in the healthcare industry. I departed from that region during the early 1990s due to the overwhelming pressure of consistently working amidst severe budget constraints, with little alternative opportunities emerging. John motivated me to acquire the skills to send emails and teach others how to do so effectively. Throughout our time together, he continuously motivated me to persevere through setbacks and self-doubt, reminding me of my capabilities and potential in the tech industry. He has repeatedly put himself at risk by standing up for me in situations that have evolved into significant challenges. Without his effort, I would never have been considered for the opportunity. He cautioned me that his confidence in my abilities wasn’t based on our marital status; rather, it stemmed from his conviction that I possessed the skills to excel and wouldn’t falter. With his unique gift, he empowers people to perceive the radiant side of existence, instilling in them the conviction that we can achieve exceptional results despite the numerous hurdles we must surmount.

As is often the case with individuals from his generation who have dedicated their careers to the tech industry, John never received a formal education in software development or management. His diploma is in Philosophy. During his time at college, he acquired proficiency in various statistical software applications. He learned to teach himself how to code, examining and comprehending programs. Prior to his career in tech, John worked with individuals with disabilities in group homes. With an innate sense of empathy, he extends kindness to those less fortunate on Earth; whenever he encounters individuals exploiting their power over vulnerable others, he will firmly intervene to put a stop to such bullying behavior. Rather than resorting to confrontation and punishment, he advocated for employing optimistic reinforcement behavioral coaching methods with underperformers in the workplace, empowering them to become productive contributors. Years spent working with people with disabilities – a vital yet frequently undervalued and uncompensated contribution – ultimately yielded significant dividends in his subsequent career.

Ian Robinson

co-author of REST in Follow

Jim Webber and I collaborated extensively with John in Calgary during the period spanning 2007 to 2008. Within 24 hours, our team transitioned seamlessly from a brief troubleshooting assignment to a comprehensive transformation project, marking a significant shift in scope and scale. While others became entangled in a labyrinth of vague, overwhelming strategy, John approached our sprawling enterprise with a thoughtful skepticism; he eschewed grandiose pronouncements for a nuanced, detail-oriented approach that fostered trust and credibility among the engineering teams by emphasizing education and inspiring good practices at their level.

John grasped that software development is a profoundly social endeavour, where transformative change often originates from grassroots efforts and daily practices, taking root in people’s convictions and manifesting itself through collective action. He inspired by setting an example, being open about the trials and tribulations of his work, fostering a nurturing environment for innovative ideas, and radiating joy in the process.

As I reflect on the impact of my profession on my career path, I recognize that a significant influence during that period has carried over to shape my actions today, as I deliberate on how to construct a meaningful professional life. At some point during the early 2010s, I felt compelled to establish a personal brand within my industry. Eventually, I noticed that I had forgotten something. With fleeting aspirations like mine, I’ve come to realize that a meaningful professional journey shouldn’t be confined to a single, brief stint – as exemplified by John’s extensive career. In its earliest stages, every interaction begins as a connection with a unique cluster of people who share distinct characteristics. Success, belief, and respect do not automatically carry over from one interaction to another; each encounter starts anew to build today’s method of collaborative working. At the heart of John’s enduring ability to rebuild workforce foundations lies a robust foundation of compassion and openness, coupled with an unwavering focus on the present moment, allowing him to repeatedly construct and refine his approach over several years.

Beyond our software development endeavors, we formed strong bonds over our mutual appreciation for British humor and science fiction; in fact, we often found ourselves laughing at our own foibles with a kindness that only comes from embracing one’s vulnerabilities. John’s exceptional life exemplified the harmonious integration of skills and endeavors achieved through a subtle blend of dedication, wit, and humility – a quietly profound leader, mentor, and friend.

This memorial proved to be a straightforward yet arduous task to commit to paper. Given John’s profound impact on my career, it’s effortless to extract the significance from the everyday challenges we face as consultants. As I stand here, it’s incredibly difficult to bring myself to bid farewell. It’s far too quickly.

As a masterful storyteller, John employs his unique approach to craft tales that inspire and empower people by drawing out their inner strengths. I recall assembling him in 2008. As a novice, I navigated the Shopper website on my inaugural day at Thoughtworks, feeling woefully unprepared. I was anxious that I’d mess up because I didn’t know Agile.

As I joined his team, his first words to me were: “Don’t worry about any of that.” By facilitating open dialogue, we enabled individuals to engage with each other. As we devoted ourselves to nurturing human connections over several months, the pace of expertise evolution whizzed by unimpeded.

What stands out for me is the recollection of humanity in those moments – the infectious laughter, John’s vivid storytelling, his wealth of expertise, and genuine desire to help others. As I’ve grown disconnected from the technical and venture aspects, my understanding has become rusty due to their relatively minor importance in my broader focus. Expertise is ephemeral and arrives with the velocity of a speeding bullet, leaving one breathless in its relentless pursuit. The shared experiences and interpersonal bonds forged during that training session were what truly brought our team together, rendering the entire experience a treasured memory.

John would often remark, “The individual in question is stuck in a rut.” I’ll help them see beyond the trees.” One aspect John cultivated in me during this formative period, though I wasn’t fully aware of it at the time. I am deeply grateful to have discovered his presence in my life.

Over a decade has passed since my collaboration with John, leaving me without any notable stories to recall. Notwithstanding his challenges with a typically difficult workforce, I wanted to describe how he managed them. Unassuming yet decisive, he neither monopolized discussions nor sought to assert his authority as group leader; instead, he struck a balance between listening and leading, his opinions forming organically through respectful consideration.

John’s responses were refreshingly candid and direct. A comedy routine with John was always a refreshing interlude, no matter how tumultuous the previous day had been. His quick wit and infectious sense of humor served as the secret ingredient that fostered camaraderie within his team.

As a truly exceptional mentor and leader, he demonstrated a rare ability to grant autonomy, frequently stepping back and allowing individuals to grow and flourish independently. He would intervene with gentle yet firm guidance, akin to a seasoned gardener nurturing young shoots, ensuring that our understanding of the situation unfolded organically and safely. Typically, this guidance was characterized by a mix of technical and internal elements on one hand, while also being influenced by political considerations and presented in a way that was client-facing and engaging. In most cases, physical affection was reserved for specific situations where it was explicitly reciprocated.

As time went on, John’s legacy extended beyond his immediate mentees, enabling him to shape a larger network of mentors and leaders in their own right. Without explicitly conveying himself as a model, he exemplifies effective leadership by personal example. The ineffable aspects of collaborating with John that brought me such joy are impossible to adequately describe, leaving me with a lingering sense of nostalgia. Regardless of their individual experiences, every person fortunate enough to collaborate with him undoubtedly sensed it.

Before I started working at TW, I had already been introduced to someone referred to as “QB”, which is a nickname for John. As a former integration developer, I previously worked alongside a team of talented professionals from Taiwan (TW), based in the same location. Throughout my inaugural day on the venture, an unexpected commotion erupted as QB suddenly leapt from his seat, bellowed “Dopio!” and hastily exited the room. As I stood there with no idea what was happening, the entire TW team suddenly materialized and exited the room together. As I initially found myself taken aback, the team leader subtly gestured for my attention, revealing that Dopio, a double espresso at Starbucks, was quarterback’s preferred beverage. When proclaiming “Dopio”, the quarterback employed a cryptic phrase that translated to “Let’s get moving, team – time for a coffee break.” That’s a particularly treasured memory of mine.

John and I worked diligently together from 2018 through to early 2020. During that period, I found myself sharing more meals with John than I did with my family. After joining Thoughtworks in 2017, I initially considered myself a non-core lateral hire and an individual with specialized skills that weren’t directly aligned with the company’s core business at the time. I depended heavily on John, along with a few other esteemed Thoughtworkers, who collectively contributed to my discovery of a solution that had a tangible impact on both our customers and the company. Throughout our discussions, we explored a wide range of topics beyond Techworks, including personal matters such as household and family, technological advancements in the industry, and broader national concerns related to Canada. Relaxation in peace John. We’ll miss you, and we’re all better off because of having you in our lives.

From my earliest days at Thoughtworks, circa 2006, John stood out as a distinctive voice amidst the din of our internal mailing list. Whenever he contributed his thoughts, it was akin to a clarion call, born from his deep wellspring of experience and sharp intellect. As I reflect on my tenure at Thoughtworks, I was fortunate enough to inherit a mentor figure, regarded alongside several other esteemed colleagues, who later became a source of inspiration and growth for me as I navigated my career.

What stood out about him was his exceptional skill in leading teams that leveraged agile methodologies to drive mainframe growth, coupled with a keen eye for strategic expansion. For several years, I was aware that I could potentially collaborate with John at Thoughtworks, a global organization with teams scattered worldwide. As they encountered the unusual realm of mainframes, they often sought my expertise to facilitate seamless interactions and foster meaningful connections with me. With his characteristic generosity, John bridged the gap to a pivotal era of personal development.

John was an exceptional individual who embodied the qualities of a true friend, mentor, and person. He consistently demonstrated a genuine concern for individuals, going above and beyond to ensure they felt heard, valued, and an integral part of the team. With his deep understanding of legacy systems and expertise in modernization and testing, he has made a significant impact. With unwavering commitment, he consistently demonstrated a willingness to share his insight and extend a helping hand whenever others were grappling with challenges. I’ll deeply miss him at The Wicket and beyond. Relaxation in peace John.

It was a privilege to count John and Joanne as friends among our social circle ever since we’ve been living in Melbourne together, where their dedication to the task has always been impressive. What sets John apart is his remarkable ability to find joy in almost any situation, coupled with a willingness to share that enthusiasm with others, while simultaneously never shying away from calling out absurdity when necessary. His desire to lead by example, taking colleagues along on his professional journey, and championing for their growth and development while fostering a sense of camaraderie with like-minded people was genuinely beneficial. As I’ve had the privilege of catching glimpses of him only occasionally over the years, I must confess that I felt incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to behold him in person just last September – and now, like so many others, I’ll deeply regret his absence.

When professionals transition to new roles, many seek guidance from mentors to help them excel and overcome potential challenges? During my first tenure as a manager at a significant scale, I was fortunate enough to have John Kordyback serve as my mentor and guide. He instilled in me the importance of embracing challenges head-on by “leaning in,” rather than fleeing or hiding from them. By imparting the value of meandering through corridors and engaging with people, he emphasized that operating at scale necessitates building and leaning on your network to achieve goals effectively. He showed me how to chuckle at life’s everyday struggles rather than letting them weigh me down. He assisted me in developing a mindset that bridged the gap between lacking expertise and gaining it through people, while also cultivating resilience in the face of daunting challenges. John significantly aided my personal and professional development, enabling me to become a more skilled technologist and leader while also fostering significant growth as an individual.

Following my encounter with John, I was based at the Calgary office, which at that point embodied TW’s “like college but with money” mantra – we were all young, it was unapologetically wild, and incredibly fun. As part of our long-term strategy, we were fortunate enough to secure the services of a highly experienced individual from TransCanada, renowned for his exceptional expertise and leadership capabilities. While I’m not thrilled about the prospect, I suppose there’s some merit to exploring this idea further. As soon as I sensed the atmosphere could turn, becoming even more finicky and tedious. Upon his arrival, it quickly became apparent that things were not what they seemed. John was remarkably youthful throughout his life. With an irrepressible zest for life, he was perpetually enthused and inquisitive, radiating an aura of boundless energy. As a result, he prioritized the two key factors essential for making this deal thrive: his expertise and the support of others.

I was consistently struck by his capacity to remain inquisitive about and intensely engaged with intricate technical matters. As many professionals move away from the manufacturing process to focus on management and administrative roles, John remained drawn to the heart of the operation: the steel itself. While it’s common for people to want to remain engaged, the rapid pace of change in today’s ever-evolving landscape can be a significant challenge for many to keep up with. However John did. He never tired of learning, and one could always discern the evident joy he derived from whatever pursuit engaged him.

I was once deeply impressed by his unique blend of humility and genuine interest in the lives of those around him. While you were together with John, he remained by your side. He was and engaged. With a wry and playful sense of humor. While always maintaining a subtle air of warmth, his eyes twinkled with a perpetual sense of good humour, a trait that often proved infectious. Wherever he went, he formed connections with people and created an atmosphere of ease for everyone around him. As he landed on the shopper’s website, he would have already meticulously planned his approach, effortlessly charming VPs and junior developers alike with his affable wit and banter. Establishing connections with influential people often appears effortless for a select few, but with John, I never detected any hint of transactionality in our interactions. He derived a palpable sense of satisfaction from fostering meaningful relationships. He displayed an identical fervor and curiosity towards his colleagues as he did towards the problems he tackled. As he effortlessly wove his magic, every moment seemed to unfold with an infectious enthusiasm that transformed even the most mundane experiences into delightful adventures. What truly stood out was how he managed to make the experience even more enjoyable. The mere memory of him still prompts a wry smile, as I’m astonished by my initial notion of his being a dull, uninviting figure. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to spend a few years around him as I did. I’ll miss him.

During my time at Thoughtworks, I had the opportunity to work with John through a Challenge Discovery program, where I was immediately struck by his exceptional ability to listen attentively to clients, pose insightful queries, and swiftly grasp the underlying complexities. Throughout his tenure, John consistently demonstrated a profound capacity for understanding individual perspectives, while simultaneously exhibiting a discerning intellect that enabled him to deconstruct complex challenges, uncover the intricate connections between humanity and technical problems. This gifted communicator had an uncanny ability to distill complex concepts into relatable and easily understandable narratives that resonated with his audience. He and I would often quip that the simplest way to ensure comprehension was to simplify an issue to the point where your mom could grasp it, and if she did, then you can be sure you truly understood it; henceforth, you’ll be equipped to guide your clients on a path to achieving their ultimate objectives without overwhelming them with complex technical jargon or tedious planning processes.

Given the stage of practicality and communication, John and I were able to collaborate with our customer leaders to demonstrate the value of small-batch development, providing frequent software deliveries to their product teams on a weekly basis, versus Throughout the initial quarter, the organization began adapting its software delivery process, subsequently incorporating modifications from various consulting firms as part of a long-term approach. While John’s warmth, humor, and personalized approach made all the difference as he guided individuals on their unique journeys.

While most days were spent away from home, John managed to turn the time on the street into a comfortable and enjoyable experience. I’ll always cherish the simple dinner nights at the authentic Native Indian eatery in Spring, Texas, where we’d also frequent his favorite hangout spot, affectionately dubbed The Korby Shack, indulging in savory burgers together. His humor, empathy, and ability to calm the tempests that beset us have left a lasting impression on my very being. As a man three years younger than John, I would still confidently tell him, “In just three short years, I’ll have grown up enough to be on par with your accomplishments, sir.”

I initially worked on the same project as John in 2013, and then revisited it again in 2020. John emerged as a leader in every situation, swiftly earning a reputation as a visionary technical expert, innovative thinker, and genuinely kind-hearted individual. John’s humor effortlessly won over everyone during even the most challenging times in high-pressure client interactions. John’s commitment to serving our customers was unparalleled; his distributed account on the US West Coast required him to lead daily calls and meetings that typically began as early as 5:00 am. As John took charge of these crucial discussions, I relied on multiple cups of coffee to stay energized throughout the morning hours. John’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of Thoughtworks leaders yielded a remarkable dividend for those around him. John was a highly respected and beloved individual who wore multiple hats with distinction – as an inspiring colleague, a trusted friend, a skilled gardener, a talented cook, a dedicated father, and a devoted husband to his cherished partner, Joanne. His departure will undoubtedly leave a profound void among his peers at Thoughtworks.

John reminded me early on in my career what effective management typically expects to see on a consistent basis. I initially detected his pseudonym on internal email distributions. Despite the passionate discussions surrounding a software development roadmap, his input consistently demonstrated a harmonious blend of thoughtfulness and consideration. As he shared his thoughts, his carefully crafted words seemed to effortlessly manipulate the audience, compelling others to hang on his every utterance.

While I was assigned to a project in Canada. I had worked with the same customer on various projects, so I finally got to put a name to the familiar face. Despite working on distinct projects, we shared a common workspace. Whenever I arrived, I knew he’d welcome me warmly; when departing, bid me farewell with equal enthusiasm. Despite the challenges he faced, he always maintained an optimistic demeanor, whether through a warm smile or a witty jest. I’ve learned to always feel empowered to request guidance whenever uncertainty arises? Before offering a response, he would take the time to listen attentively, pause thoughtfully, and deliberate carefully?

In leadership spheres, a well-worn adage holds that “At the end of the day, people won’t recall what you said or did; they’ll remember how you made them feel.” John excelled at making everyone feel heard. Since you felt heard, you also made an effort to actively listen to John as he shared his thoughts and ideas. While my entrepreneurial endeavor was brief-lived, the lessons I learned from his leadership style instilled in me the confidence to lead without formal authority.

Before joining Thoughtworks as a permanent employee, I enjoyed the privilege of collaborating with a team that had partnered with Thoughtworks for a brief “consulting and technical” guidance assignment initially expected to be of short duration. Preoccupied by the constant tug towards non-technical aspects of organizational management, I find myself struggling to sustain my waning passion for technical pursuits amidst the demands of administrative duties.

As I reflected on our brief encounter, it was John Kordyback who reassured me that embracing my peculiarities – a dash of wistfulness, a pinch of quirkiness, and an unflinching commitment to the art of being technically precise – was not only permissible but also praiseworthy. As I progressed in my career, I found myself working alongside John as colleagues and teammates at Thoughtworks Calgary, where I credit him with influencing several pivotal decisions and directional changes that have significantly impacted my professional path.

I’m quite particular about knowing John, my friend.

Chirag Lakhani

I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to collaborate closely and work meticulously alongside John on this joint venture. Throughout our in-person interactions on the current project, I found John’s presence invaluable, as he not only demonstrated exceptional teamwork but also served as a trusted mentor and coach to me. His guidance on major periods and public speaking was remarkably insightful. John’s innovative thinking revolutionized our approach to resolving shopper concerns, prompting us to think outside the box and foster a culture of bold experimentation and rapid prototyping. Beyond the workplace, our dinner conversations often revealed the depth of his personal passions and the warmth he had for his family. As the pandemic’s restrictions began to ease, he anxiously awaited the delivery of his newly purchased bike, a symbol of freedom and adventure in the wake of lockdowns. During his sabbatical, he craved the joy and freedom that came with exploring the outdoors on his bike. Despite his illness, John’s remarkable resilience endured throughout. During our Zoom conversations, his unbridled enthusiasm filled every moment, as he savored the exceptional medical care he received. Despite having experienced some incredibly strong and intense periods, he still managed to make time for us. We performed New York occasions puzzles (Wordle & Connections) on a regular basis and his aggressive spirit thrived. Sharing our daily scores with each other was a highlight of our time spent together on our personalized Wordle channel. Without his scores on our Wordle channel, we’re starkly reminded that things will never be quite the same without him.

Relaxation in peace, John. Your presence is sorely missed.

After a brief hiatus following my return from maternity leave, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with John. As I navigated this pivotal phase, I found myself struggling to reconcile the demands of my professional life with the unpredictable rhythms of motherhood. Kordyback wasn’t just a remarkable colleague who reignited my passion for work; he was an extraordinary individual who also freely offered guidance on parenting, brewing recommendations, and culinary expertise.

A charismatic leader possessed values that bordered on excess, a disarming smile, a trove of cheesy one-liners, and an innate ability to find novel ways to express his deep appreciation for Joanne.

Kelly Cronin

During my three-year tenure at TW, I worked exclusively on a single project with John, but his presence and our shared experience in that “foxhole” left a lasting impact on me. During my initial encounter with him, I was pleasantly surprised to find it taking place within the confines of Kordy Shack, where he flashed a warm smile upon my arrival, reluctantly handed over the menu, and offered a few recommendations that, in hindsight, I foolishly chose to ignore.

As I embedded myself within a team of highly specialized technicians, I became obsessed with understanding the intricacies of our process, relentlessly seeking out details and insights from each member to illuminate the narrative of our work. As delegates entered the communal convention room between grueling conference sessions, they were unexpectedly drawn into a discussion about my increasingly complex whiteboard diagrams. John had developed a skill for rationalization, one that allowed him to effectively communicate complex ideas to even the most unsophisticated individuals, such as myself, by presenting solutions in a way that was easy to understand and relate to; a talent he had refined over years of navigating clients through the complexities of legacy systems, helping them find alternative paths when they became stuck in technical quicksand.

He demonstrated unwavering tenacity in pursuing such a conversation. He provided diagrams outlining fundamental information concepts, breaking down the process into manageable steps, and detailing the shopper’s expected course of action towards their desired transformation. He also shared insights on what they tended to do when time and resources were exhausted, highlighting the potential consequences that could ensue. He significantly expanded my comprehension of information platforms, plugging a significant gap in my knowledge base. I may never learn to hear John, but I’ve found I should listen to him. Though I lacked the insight to grasp the true depth of his data, it’s clear he comprehended the intricate details, from the forest’s grandeur to the smallest phloem and xylem, which collectively sustained the ecosystem’s fragile balance.

With a dry Canadian wit that belied his affable nature, he was game for being ridiculous, indulging in outlandish headlines and corny dad jokes with equal enthusiasm; yet, amidst the turmoil of a scathing critique, he remained magnanimous and composed, an unyielding bastion of good humour. It’s truly heartbreaking when someone has to confront their own mortality, acknowledging the brevity of life as they reflect on the journey thus far, celebrating the therapy that sustained them, the unwavering support of loved ones, and the devoted care of medical professionals. That’s precisely who he remained – a soul driven by hope’s relentless pursuit, until its promise dwindled, at which point he surrendered to the gentle solace of reality, walking the rest of the journey with tranquility and acceptance. As those who knew him intimately can attest, our good fortune lay in having shared his life; similarly, we may find ourselves blessed if we could muster the same courage, unwavering composure, and devotion to tend to those he has left in his wake. The hole in my data was another example of his diligence, a trait for which I have grown to appreciate him.

In 2008, John and I collaborated extensively over the course of several years on my inaugural project at Thoughtworks. I struggled with a vast and ambiguous portfolio, frequently finding myself uncertain about the tasks I was undertaking. John’s warm and infectious smile, which will forever be etched in my memory as a symbol of encouragement, instilled in me an unshakeable sense of capability and optimism.

A stalwart proponent of harnessing individuals’ unique aptitudes and leveraging them to maximum effect. One of the earliest influencers to underscore the importance of human intuition in knowledge acquisition was he. Despite his hectic schedule, he made it a point to frequently drop by our workstations to regale us with tales of his latest cycling adventures, offer tips on savvy shopping strategies, and bring us up to speed on the latest technological innovations.

As a wise guide, he mentored not just myself, but anyone willing to listen and learn from his experience. He will undoubtedly be deeply mourned.

When I first encountered John Kordyback, he burst onto the scene of a project we were actively collaborating on. As a rookie, I initially struggled with anxiety. What was he doing in that spot? He gazed up at the sky, declaring confidently, “Air Cover!” As our friendship blossomed, I grasped the subtlety of his phrase, which conveyed “influencing people multiple tiers above what’s apparent from your perspective.”

John was consistently passionate about people, yet he never bought into pretentiousness. At one point, our conversation turned to the criticism some of our colleagues had leveled against the project, dismissing it as a “waterfall” approach. Since I couldn’t improve this text due to its brevity and unclear sentence structure, the answer is: SKIP He pressed his palm to his lips in a comical display of shock, only to have the wolfish glint of Kordyback’s smile creep across his face once more? “Don’t forget to remind them to take steps towards recovery.” He stated.

I recall meeting John during one of my initial endeavors in the realm of Twitter-based community building. With a keen sense of empathy and a unique insight, he brought a refreshing perspective to the table, considering the most essential aspects with remarkable clarity. As a current renter, I used to struggle trying to figure out how to navigate working with customers; however, John consistently proved himself to be a guiding influence, focusing on what truly mattered. He was known to exchange stories about carpentry and various projects. He’s already missed.

Lejo Varughese

John has been a constant source of guidance and inspiration throughout both my personal and professional life. As a trusted mentor, he assumed the role of a wise and experienced guide, offering sage counsel and support during pivotal moments in my professional journey, serving as a steady source of wisdom and reassurance through both triumphs and tribulations. His kindness, profound knowledge, and unwavering dedication will continue to inspire and inform me as I chart my course through life’s journey ahead. Exuding serenity, a trusted friend and guide offers solace.

What’s the best way to accelerate the development and delivery of value to our customers?

We’ve co-authored a series of influential books on the topic, including “Steady Supply”, “Lean Enterprise”, “The DevOps Handbook”, and “Speed Up”. These works have helped organizations around the world transform their software development processes.

John was a highly accomplished leader and problem solver who expertly navigated complex and ambiguous situations, consistently guiding teams and initiatives to achieve successful outcomes with ease. Because of his work implementing steady supply practices on mainframes for a large insurance company’s workforce, I had the opportunity to get to know him. He presented his views on this topic at a conference I coordinated in 2013. I have substantiated numerous examples on over 100 occasions throughout my career.

It was less about the specific actions John took and more about the manner in which he carried them out that truly set him apart as a unique individual to me. With a remarkable capacity to balance being deeply empathetic towards others while still radiating an aura of calm confidence. With unwavering enthusiasm, he would initiate interactions with warm, embracing hugs, taking the time to genuinely connect with those around him, while sprinkling cleverly crafted witty remarks throughout conversations to keep things engaging and lively. With unwavering empathy, he fostered an environment where everyone around him felt heard, valued, and genuinely understood. As he demonstrated exceptional empathy and compassion, it’s clear that his approach had a profound impact on those around him, complementing his impressive technical skills to drive success. By studying his example, I gained invaluable insights. I will deeply miss him.

During my time at Thoughtworks, I had the pleasure of collaborating with John Kordyback on three significant events. As a renowned individual and esteemed marketing consultant, I owe my success to his influence. I long to emulate the esteemed Thoughtworkers he was. His humility and kindness left an indelible mark on those around him, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues, friends, and customers alike. I genuinely enjoyed his laid-back approach, which remained effective even when tackling pressing concerns. I’ll miss him

It was my exceptional opportunity to collaborate with John throughout his tenure at our Houston store from 2018 to 2019, during which I gained valuable insights into his work ethic and professionalism. With unparalleled expertise in corporate architecture, comprehensive testing across multiple formats, including mainframe and legacy modernization initiatives, his credentials shone brightly. His ability to inspire confidence and instill order amidst turmoil in a room full of high-level executives had an almost mystical quality to it. Notwithstanding, what stood out to me as perhaps his most endearing quality was the unwavering persistence and empathetic compassion with which he interacted with everyone around him.

It’s rare for someone as discerning and accomplished as him to be willing to set aside their impressive achievements to engage in deeply meaningful discussions that span everything from work and profession to household quirks and lighthearted exchanges about the hilarious differences between American and Canadian culture, not to mention enthusiastic conversations about the remarkable photographs he’d taken of his cat. I have learned a great deal from John, and I am deeply grateful for his teachings.

Relaxation in peace, type buddy.

I’ve no fond memories of John’s lengthy Australian tour that extend beyond pondering the unexpected parallels between observing ice hockey and marriage counseling in Canada. With a penchant for injecting his mischievous humor and a wicked grin into any interaction, John brought a profound sense of empathy and communal bonding to every technical encounter he facilitated.

When John was actively engaged in the workforce, one could always count on his unwavering dedication to empowering every individual within that team; he relentlessly sought out each member, offering personalized support and encouragement to foster innovative thinking and fresh perspectives. John’s generosity didn’t stop at simply being beneficial with his time; instead, he genuinely embodied the spirit of pastoral care by bringing his extensive experience to every interaction.

As John articulately conveyed his enduring passion for his partner’s unwavering companionship, surrounded by the very individual he professed his adoration for, it became a poignant lesson in embracing vulnerability, basking in the euphoria of being deeply in love, and cherishing the importance of expressing heartfelt gratitude for all life’s blessings. John facilitated the development of numerous technologists who were fortunate enough to have received his guidance on critical problems seeking solutions. The fond memories of his compassionate and selfless nature, extending to all those around him, remain etched in my mind even a decade after we parted ways; I genuinely appreciate the man for that enduring quality.

Jonathan Kohl

Twenty-five years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting John during my initial stint in the tech industry as a software testing professional, shortly after my first experience working for an IT firm. John was asked to review my work and provide guidance and recommendations as needed. As a precocious child, I spent my formative years crafting Ruby scripts for automating checks and management procedures, only to have my superiors conclude that having a more experienced adult in the room would be beneficial for project success. After confirming with John what I had been working on, I often felt a sense of trepidation. My code successfully addressed the problems I sought to resolve, and its simplicity was undeniable. Having previously employed an early version of Watir, I caught the attention of its developer with my innovative usage. Notably, he praised my work, specifically highlighting areas I was uncertain about, while also offering constructive suggestions for improvement. He enthusiastically assisted me in sharing my ideas with the entire team, exhibiting a remarkably positive attitude towards even the most minute details.

In the years that followed, my emotional state would often become distressed, and John would arrive to inquire about my well-being. A request was made for me to convert a data radiator I had developed into a digital format, with the specific requirement being its creation in Microsoft Excel. After expressing my frustration to John about the impossibility of creating our required reporting dashboard in Excel, he retorted: “You’ll be able to do something with Excel if you actually must.” While his words were dismissive, he ultimately proved himself correct by teaching me how to make API calls and navigate Excel’s complexities to resolve the issue. I worked diligently, earning the satisfaction of my supervisors. Throughout the years, he would recount the tale, a wide grin spreading across his face, his eyes twinkling with delight. “I warned you that Excel can be pushed to accomplish things, even when you know you shouldn’t.”

To foster further exploration beyond a routine review, John suggested collaborative effort over individual scrutiny, allowing us to actively engage in joint problem-solving. We initiated pair programming experiments to explore the potential benefits of collaboration between testers and builders in accelerating software development projects, particularly in terms of improving quality and reducing defects through iterative refinement. By identifying a prime area for software testers to make a meaningful impact, we’ve also uncovered valuable insights on the benefits of pairing programmers with diverse skill sets. While John required guidance, I needed to teach him and personally master Test-Driven Development (TDD) myself; therefore, from that point forward, we paired up and I learned how to craft test-driven code using TDD, incrementally refining my skills with each individual test. As I transitioned into a role as an impartial marketing consultant, the time invested in my collaboration with John ultimately yielded significant dividends. With exceptional expertise, an unparalleled mastery of crucial tools, and the infectious impact of his sunny disposition and unwavering composure, even in the most turbulent environments. As I reflect on my journey, I’m reminded of the extraordinary opportunities that arose from a kind mentor’s vision, recognizing potential in a young, ambitious individual like myself. His guidance and encouragement allowed me to write articles and share insights at conferences, all thanks to his selfless investment in my growth.

What will stay with me most is my impression of John as a person beyond his technical expertise. Although our collaboration came to an end, we remained connected. As a seasoned marketing consultant, he proved an ideal sounding board for brainstorming innovative ideas and soliciting expert guidance whenever I faced challenging situations. Even if my thoughts were still developing, he would always offer constructive feedback in an encouraging manner. Belong @ DataRobot: Celebrating 2024 Ladies’s Historical past Month with DataRobot AI Legends

The DataRobot Belong Group, Ladies@DR, was created to bring together women and allies at DataRobot, fostering a supportive community that provides resources, networking opportunities, and collective encouragement. We’ve collectively commemorated achievements and milestones, fostered trust-based settings where colleagues can offer mutual support during challenging times, and established safe zones for open communication, idea-sharing, and creative problem-solving.

We crafted a mission to provide thoughtful service to our group.

Ladies@DR aims to foster a diverse and inclusive culture by creating opportunities for female-identified individuals and their supporters to connect, learn, and drive progress towards shared goals and ambitions.

As we celebrate Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day in March, we look to our team of powerful, resilient, and talented women leaders to pave the way forward. At our inaugural World Firm Kick-Off in February 2024, seven exceptional young women were honored as DataRobot AI Legends. Their achievements have been recognized as a testament to the very essence of DataRobot’s core values and unwavering commitment to excellence, embodying the company’s highest standards of quality and dedication.

We sat down with pioneers in their field and posed questions designed to inspire others to follow in their footsteps.

  • Throughout my career, I’ve cultivated confidence by embracing calculated risks, learning from setbacks, and surrounding myself with people who support and challenge me. Resilience has been developed through a growth mindset, effective time management, and prioritizing self-care.
  • As she navigates this new chapter in her career, I’d suggest she focus on building a strong professional network, seeking mentors and role models who can offer guidance and support. It’s also crucial for her to develop a growth mindset, embracing challenges and viewing failures as opportunities for growth. Additionally, she should prioritize self-care, making time for activities that bring her joy and help her maintain a healthy work-life balance.

What they truly wanted to convey was that

Ina Ko

As I navigated my professional journey, I focused on cultivating confidence and resilience by embracing humility, actively seeking out new challenges, surrounding myself with a network of supportive peers who offered guidance and mentorship, and concentrating on the meaningful impact my work had on others. Embracing the dynamic nature of life and career trajectories as opportunities for growth rather than roadblocks has been crucial. With this mindset, I’ve successfully navigated uncertainty, converted setbacks into learning opportunities, and cultivated a consistent habit of study and adaptability.

As young women starting their professional journeys, I suggest embracing your unique path without comparing yourself to others? As you navigate life’s twists and turns, remember that embracing change can lead to invaluable learning experiences that hone your skills and guide you towards a more fulfilling future. Cultivate a mindset of constructive intention by seeking to understand the underlying drivers and motivations of those around you, including colleagues and friends. By fostering a collaborative atmosphere, this approach empowers the establishment of profound and authentic relationships among colleagues. As you navigate the complexities of life, cultivate an openness to diverse perspectives, embracing each fresh opportunity to grow and adapt, while acknowledging the unique strengths and unshakeable resolve that define your journey.

Julia Townsend

As I restarted my day with a clear objective in mind, every action I took became a deliberate step towards achieving it, allowing me to maintain a bird’s-eye view of my goals and navigate obstacles with greater resilience. I’ve learned to quiet my mind and repeat the mantra ‘time is elastic, one second expands and contracts’ whenever anxiety creeps in.

As novel opportunities arise, I’ve found myself embracing unconventional paths, despite initial doubts about my capabilities, leading to a diverse array of professional experiences that have been both enriching and thought-provoking. This newfound confidence in myself empowers me to tackle unfamiliar challenges head-on, undaunted by the uncertainty of not having all the answers immediately.

I firmly believe in investing time and resources in building relationships and cultivating champions across the organization, as this invaluable skillset is essential for driving results and exercising influence. By doing so, one can expect a profound, lasting impact that permeates every move made.

Brook Miller

As I continue to learn and grow, I’ve come to understand that true confidence stems from recognizing that mastery is not the ultimate goal for me. By adopting a growth-oriented mentality, I opt to cultivate a lifelong learning approach, fostering self-assurance through meaningful interactions with individuals who can mentor me on new topics, as well as reciprocating by sharing my own knowledge with others.

When discussing resilience within specific contexts, I’ve found that gaining a broader perspective by zooming out can be incredibly valuable in fostering a deeper understanding of the concept. By reframing intense moments as mere episodes within the grand narrative of your career, you’ll maintain momentum and avoid getting bogged down in the present instant. It’s perfectly acceptable to seek help or clarification when needed, taking time to prioritize self-care and mental well-being if required.

Spend quality time understanding yourself, identifying your core strengths, and pinpointing areas where you can make a meaningful impact. Then, annually, take on something that pushes you out of your comfort zone – the key to unlocking personal growth and fulfillment. Having a correct mindset can propel you significantly forward as you build and refine your skills. Emulate those whose expertise and achievements inspire you, and don’t hesitate to seek guidance from them. As time goes on, you will possess the ability to bestow a similar gift upon someone else.

Katherine Stepanova

Building confidence and resilience necessitates a sustained effort, garnered support from others, both professionally and personally, and an abundance of arduous labor. My confidence and resilience stem primarily from my grandmother, a remarkable individual who had faced numerous obstacles and setbacks throughout her life, yet remained steadfast in her determination to persevere through challenges and emerge triumphant in the face of adversity. From a young age, she instilled in me the value that when women are well-educated, work tirelessly, and demonstrate admirable work ethic, regardless of their chosen path, they can achieve anything they set their minds to – as long as they believe in themselves. Throughout my life, my mother has served as my most ardent supporter, and I am deeply thankful to her for that unwavering encouragement. As I strive to emulate her example with my own daughter, I will aim to instill in her the same sense of confidence and pride.

Crafting comprehensive assistance frameworks that synergize individual and collective expertise to empower individuals in navigating life’s complexities requires careful consideration of various factors.

To develop an effective support network, identify key stakeholders, assess their unique strengths, and allocate responsibilities accordingly. Foster open communication channels by establishing regular check-ins, fostering a culture of trust, and encouraging honest feedback. While life may present both uplifting moments and treacherous ones, with a robust support network at your disposal, you’ll consistently find the resilience to push through obstacles, reflect on challenges, and ultimately triumph over adversity. Savor every moment of your adventure and allow its lessons and memories to enrich your life.

Sahana Sundara Raj Sreenath

Through stepping outside my comfort zone, I’ve found opportunities in tasks that were once daunting. By embracing uncertainty and taking calculated risks, individuals establish a strong foundation for growth, as they’re willing to learn from their mistakes and adapt accordingly.

As I ventured into my professional journey, I found that cultivating curiosity on a regular basis proved instrumental in allowing me to delve deeper into the intricacies of my roles and responsibilities. Continuously seeking and incorporating feedback from others enabled me to streamline my workflow, while maintaining a strong sense of motivation and dedication led to the development of a robust work ethic – one that consistently pushed me to challenge myself and strive for excellence, ultimately yielding remarkable results that spoke for themselves.

Teresa Gearin

Embracing change! As the world evolves, change becomes an inescapable reality; yet, by embracing a growth mindset and actively cultivating our skills, we can transform the perception of change from daunting and unpredictable to empowering and opportunistic. As a proactive individual, I continually strive to refine my approach by exploring innovative procedures, collaborative strategies, and instinctive insights that enable me to excel in any given context. Through this process, I’ve gained the confidence to assertively navigate traditionally masculine environments, thrive in challenging situations, and effectively advocate for my own needs and desires. As the day concludes, I find myself caught in a delicate dance between being my greatest supporter and harshest judge, striving to strike a harmonious balance between these two opposing forces.

Your voice issues! Develop the skill to effectively advocate for yourself and others with confidence and assertiveness through dedicated study. Your unique blend of time, experiences, and innovative thinking holds immense value. Throughout your journey, remain open to guidance, take the initiative to learn and develop, and have unwavering faith in yourself, recognizing your true value and striving to achieve it.

Will the Countering CCP Drones Act truly go?

0

Will Congress actually pass the Countering CCP Drones Act and effectively counter China’s growing military capabilities in the skies? Congressional leaders are seeking to prohibit the sale and use of certain Chinese-made drones in the United States, citing concerns over national security and potential surveillance capabilities. The proposed bill would specifically target products from Beijing-based DJI, one of the world’s largest drone manufacturers. Has evolved into a highly discussed topic in the drone industry. Was I destined to know whether or not it would actually happen? Alas, I lack a crystal ball, so I’m unable to predict the outcome of those contentious, anti-DJI regulations. What a secret remains unknown to anyone?

So far, we have a clear understanding of the Countering CCP Drones Act’s trajectory.

Will the Countering CCP Drones Act ultimately prevail in its mission to counter China’s growing influence?

The Countering CCP Drones Act: A Primer on Stopping China’s Drone Infiltration

Prior to exploring the future trajectory of the Countering CCP Drones Act, let us first review the fundamental components of the proposed legislation. We have been working at The Drone Woman. Here’s a recap for those joining us late or catching up on recent developments.

The Countering CCP Drones Act aims to address concerns about the potential risks posed by China’s growing expertise in drone technology. In particular, it focuses on drones produced by DJI, the globe’s leading drone manufacturer. Some U.S. Concerns have been voiced by politicians regarding the possibility of Chinese authorities exploiting DJI’s drones for knowledge manipulation or switching purposes.

If handed a proposal, DJI might potentially be added to an inventory of entities considered national security risks. The addition of such an inventory to drones would potentially hinder their ability to operate within specific frequency bands critical for efficient control and management? However, this move could potentially render DJI drones virtually unusable.

The Act successfully rode into law at the end of its journey on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025. The annual federal budget request outlines key U.S. government priorities and financial projections. Protection spending, which undoubtedly encompasses a medley of disparate topics, also includes consumer drones among its diverse range of semi-related subjects. By leveraging its inclusion within the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification Process Act (CCDPA) efficiently circumvented traditional legislative obstacles and accelerated its implementation process.

Will the Countering CCP Act ultimately become law, as lawmakers ponder its prospects?

It already handed the U.S. Home of Representatives

The . However, the vote was shut.

The $883.7 billion National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) FY25 defense bill passed by a narrow margin, garnering a 217-199 vote in favor of its passage.

The vote largely followed party lines, with 196 Democrats opposing the bill. Meanwhile, a mere six Democrats backed the proposal. However, a whopping 211 Republicans voted in favor of the bill, while just three stood opposed.

The administration’s proposal still requires Senate approval.

Although passed by the House of Representatives, it still requires Senate approval before proceeding to the President’s desk.

Additionally, we have an extended lead time that requires careful planning and management to ensure timely delivery. According to political consultants, the anticipated Senate vote is unlikely to take place before December 2024. It’s also possible that the invoice may undergo changes at any time nonetheless. While it’s true that some opportunities may arise, we shouldn’t underestimate the role of luck in determining our success.

In accordance with an American drone company based in Austin, Texas, famous for building the $400 Skydio 2, students in Social Research classes may claim that proposal submissions are frequently filled with unnecessary ideas that get eliminated at each stage of the approval process.

As the 12-month period unfolds, it’s crucial not to overlook the heightened political tension building towards the 2024 presidential election, which promises to be a pivotal moment in global politics.

As tensions between nations escalate, periodic electoral seasons ignite fervent debates, with politicians vociferously condemning Chinese policies, their dramatic entrances underscoring a stark divide. While time alone will reveal whether this posturing subsides after the election.

It’s surrounded by controversy

Tightening regulations on DJI drones is crucial to ensure national security and protect intellectual property rights from alleged Chinese espionage and coercion, proponents claim.

While past safety concerns are crucial considerations, proponents of the act have also stressed the urgent need for a robust response to perceived Chinese aggression in pursuing technological supremacy. The lingering aura of discontent surrounds the invoice, undeniable in its presence. Some experts hope that banning DJI drones would help them gain a stronger foothold.

However, critics contend that excessively rigid regulations could potentially suffocate entrepreneurial spirit and impede global supply networks? A ban on DJI imports could significantly impact both DJI and other U.S.-based companies that rely heavily on their products. And there are lots of. With no shortage of companies – from small outfits to major oil and fuel firms like ExxonMobil – reliant on DJI.

The potential implications of this development could be far-reaching, threatening to extinguish the enthusiasm of recreational drone enthusiasts and amateur photographers who have gravitated towards DJI products due to their accessibility, user-friendly design, and established track record of safety and reliability.

The debate has incited diverse reactions, sparking heated discussions, and fostering intense emotions.

Proposed legal guidelines may pose additional uncertainty.

As anticipated concerns about potential opposition arise, we’ve actually witnessed various iterations of proposed legislation. Some proposals adopt a more nuanced approach to hindering DJI’s advancements, eschewing an outright ban.

The DFR Act

One notable proposal would impose a 30% tariff on Chinese-made drones, effectively restricting imports from this country. Once enacted, the law will increase customs duties by 5 percent annually. Are drones with certain critical components manufactured in China expected to be prohibited from entering the US market as early as 2030 under the proposed DFR Act? Notably, Representative Elise Stefanik – a key drafter of the Countering CCP Drones Act – also sponsored the Deter Foreign Election Interference by Reforming and Enhancing our processes for Safeguarding the Integrity of Federal Elections Act.

Despite its numerous benefits, the DFR Act remains a topic of ongoing debate among experts and stakeholders. Tariffs have been criticized for their inherent inconsistency as a source of revenue. Regardless of the circumstances, businesses will inevitably face pressure to increase prices to an extent that disproportionately hurts smaller enterprises and individuals.

The Drone Fencing Act may not effectively address concerns about DJI drones spying on America, but rather curb the number of pilots choosing to operate DJI equipment. The regulation may necessitate pilots to display their certification and training records before operating their next flight. Unless US drone prices decline significantly, this promise remains uncertain.

The Safe Integration of Drones in the National Airspace (SIDNA) Act of 2023?

The American Safety Drone Act of 2023 is another relevant development.

The proposed act that would specifically bar federal agencies from procuring drones manufactured by Chinese state-owned entities has the highest likelihood of becoming law, as it directly addresses concerns about China’s government gaining access to US. authorities knowledge. While the ban might not have a significant impact on pricing for small businesses, consumers, or other organizations seeking to utilize DJI drones,

By mandating that federal agencies procure drones exclusively from US-based manufacturers, the government could potentially level the playing field for domestic companies and provide them with a competitive edge over Chinese rivals. Will addressing these political targets potentially spur advancements among U.S.-based companies?

Several countries have enacted or proposed laws restricting the use of Chinese-made DJI drones amid concerns over data privacy and national security.

The US government’s recent attempts to regulate DJI, the world-renowned drone manufacturer, represent just another manifestation of an increasingly widespread trend in American politics: a growing inclination towards legislation and oversight in various sectors. Efforts are underway to counterbalance the perceived risks associated with China’s technological advancements in the realm of the Chinese language. The drive to prohibit TikTok highlights concerns about data privacy and national security implications. The Countering CCP Drones Act echoes concerns regarding the susceptibility of critical infrastructure and intellectual property security to potential threats from DJI’s technology.

What lies ahead for the Countering CCP Act’s uncertain fate remains a pressing concern. The situation’s complexity stems from the interplay between various factors, including lingering geopolitical tensions, economic challenges, and domestic political developments. While broad consensus exists regarding the need to address China’s technological influence, disagreement persists over the most effective means to achieve this goal.

Will the United States’ Countering Chinese Government-Sponsored Propaganda Act finally pass?

It’s unclear what nobody is aware of, but something surely will be removed from an assurance that has already gone?

“The regulatory landscape surrounding DJI drones presents a significant challenge,” says Jonathon Molik, a U.S.-based expert. An intelligence officer with nearly three decades of experience. Molik, a proponent of legislation governing DJI due to its Chinese ties and data collection practices, believes that while a ban is theoretically possible, it remains unlikely.

As a comparison to TikTok’s ubiquity, Molik noted that the concern about Chinese surveillance through drones may not be as pressing since they haven’t reached the same level of popularity.

“While drones have become increasingly mainstream, many individuals lack a meaningful connection to them, much like their fleeting fascination with TikTok.” “This neglects to consider the potential consequences of using DJI drones, which warrants further exploration.”

Q1 2023 In Evaluation: ROBO, HTEC & THNQ

As severe weather events like atmospheric rivers and tornado outbreaks swept across the country, it’s eerily reminiscent of what homebuyers experienced in March. Despite “turbulent” aptly describing the market’s volatile nature since the Fed began hiking interest rates a year ago, things reached a frenzied pitch last month, largely driven by three bank failures that sparked global panic, triggered significant deposit outflows, and precipitated a sudden but severe downturn as a crisis of confidence seized world markets. Despite the excitement surrounding March Madness, the first quarter ultimately proved decisive in determining the victor. The ROBO International Indexes continued their upward trend, with all indicators flashing green across the board.
