According to Hao Zhang, an associate professor in the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Manning School of Information and Computer Sciences and director of the Human-Centered Robotics Lab, there is a long-standing debate about whether to create a single, highly capable humanoid robot that can perform all tasks or instead develop a team of robots that can collaborate effectively.

In a production setting, a robotic crew will prove cost-effective due to its ability to maximize the potential of each robot. To evaluate the efficacy of their LVWS approach, researchers conducted a PC-based simulation, assigning 18 tasks to six robots and benchmarking it against four alternative strategies. According to Jose, computing the precise answer poses significant difficulties due to its extremely lengthy calculation time. As robot populations grow and responsibilities expand, the impact becomes exponentially more significant. It’s unlikely that you’ll achieve the best possible outcome within a limited timeframe.

Upon examining fashion’s utilization of 100 tasks, researchers found that when it was impractical to calculate a precise answer, their approach completed the tasks in 22 timesteps, outperforming the comparative models with estimated ranges of 23.05 to 25.85 timesteps.

Zhang aims to further advance the development of automated robotics groups, particularly in scenarios where scalability is a crucial factor. For instance, he posits that a solitary, humanoid robot could prove an even more suitable fit within the compact confines of a single-family residence, whereas multi-robot systems would be a superior option for a large-scale industrial setting demanding specialized tasks.

The HTC U24 Professional’s specifications reveal a 50-megapixel front-facing camera, expandable storage via microSD card, and a 3.5mm audio jack for wired headphones. Attention-grabbing? Sure. Flasgship? No. The cellphone is decidedly mid-range. Wouldn’t the device be able to withstand the rigorous tests conducted by Zack Nelson in his JerryRig Everything video series, which includes learning torture?

The HTC U24 Professional’s innovative under-display fingerprint scanner unexpectedly revived a few unsettling memories for me?

The gadget features a durable aluminum body, making it simple to scrape away any paint that may have accumulated. The rear panel, crafted from durable plastic, allows Zack to showcase his creativity by carving a tombstone that seamlessly aligns with the iconic HTC logo embossed on the panel. While the video sparked enthusiasm, Nelson’s difficulties with the under-display fingerprint sensor were a setback, reminiscent of earlier struggles when he first tried it. Despite 15 attempts, the sensor remained nonfunctional.

Despite Zack’s claims, HTC phones are notoriously difficult to disassemble for repair purposes. It didn’t appear to cause Nelson much trouble disassembling the U24 Professional.

I would like to see HTC make another attempt at crafting a flagship device and wouldn’t mind if it borrowed design cues from the iconic One M8. Although Taiwan-based HTC seems uncertain about competing directly with Samsung, they may be content to focus on producing mid-range devices at affordable prices until they can deliver a design that rivals the Galaxy S series. It’s not the HTC that many people remember, which is indeed quite unpleasant.

NOYB, a prominent European privacy advocacy group, has submitted nine separate GDPR complaints against X for exploiting the personal data of over 60 million European users to train “Grok,” its massive language model.

Without notifying customers or seeking their consent, X failed to disclose that it was utilizing personal data to train artificial intelligence models.

NOYB – Nothing to Hide – is a European nonprofit privacy advocacy group dedicated to enforcing digital rights and safeguarding information security through the implementation of laws such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The group’s actions have previously led to severe criticism on Meta, numerous complaints, and several fines for various GDPR violations.

Grok educated quietly

NOYB claims that Grok utilised enormous amounts of personal data from approximately 60 million customers within the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA), without a valid legal basis or individual consent, thereby egregiously contravening General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) principles.

The apparent opacity in Grok’s coaching tactics was initially detected in late July 2024 by @EastBakedOven, who noticed the disparity while examining recent modifications to X account settings.

The actual permission granted is: “Please allow your posts, interactions, inputs, and outcomes with Grok to be used for coaching and fine-tuning purposes.”

X reveals that this knowledge could be leveraged to refine Grok’s capabilities, potentially even sharing it with its counterpart, xAI, to achieve similar enhancements.

In the final week, Ireland’s Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) voiced satisfaction with the agreement it had reached with X, under which the company committed to suspending the processing of personal data until September.

The official announcement from DPC confirms that an unauthorized coaching session with Grok occurred within a specific timeframe of May 7 to July 31, 2024.

Noting the Data Protection Commissioner’s settlement with X, Max Schrems, chair of None of Your Business, remarked that the company neglected to consider the authorized perspective of the issue, instead focusing on proposals for mitigating measures to be implemented.
