Tauri 2.0 turbocharges plugin performance with a direct strike on the core.

0

Since the Tauri 2.0 launch candidate was introduced on August 1, it has undergone more than a year and a half of beta iterations and over a year of alpha releases? The venture’s struggles to deliver on its promise of “cell as a first-class citizen” in Tauri 2.0 were partly attributed to overhyping its capabilities, leading to lengthy alpha and beta phases. Despite this, cell plugins do exist in Tauri’s official repository, with successful app constructions for both Android and iOS platforms via Tauri.

Tauri provides a framework for building applications that have a small footprint – significantly smaller than those constructed with traditional technologies. Builders can seamlessly integrate any front-end framework that compiles to HTML and CSS to build customer experiences using Tauri, while leveraging programming languages such as Rust, Go, or Node.js for back-end functionality.

Will the latest version of the Tauri 2.0 model be released this month? Tauri 2.0, released as of July 1, has built upon its previous iteration by boasting enhanced shell API performance and a tailored Windows code signing script. In Tauri 2.0, the Tauri CLI can seamlessly integrate with the built-in improvement server running locally on localhost when targeting Android or iOS applications. Prior to that, this solely was feasible when developing a desktop application. Why do builders no longer wish to showcase their innovative work in a public online forum?

Robots are revolutionizing industries by streamlining processes and increasing efficiency. However, their full potential is hindered when they lack the ability to collaborate effectively with one another. A pioneering new approach is being developed to overcome this limitation, enabling robots to work together seamlessly in a harmonious orchestra of productivity.

Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have conducted a new study revealing that programming robots to autonomously form teams and patiently wait for their colleagues leads to faster task completion times, with far-reaching implications for industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, and warehouse automation. Our analysis received recognition as a finalist for the prestigious Greatest Paper Award in the field of Multi-Robotic Systems at the 2024 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation.

According to Hao Zhang, an associate professor in the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Manning School of Information and Computer Sciences and director of the Human-Centered Robotics Lab, there is a long-standing debate about whether to create a single, highly capable humanoid robot that can perform all tasks or instead develop a team of robots that can collaborate effectively.

In a production setting, a robotic crew will prove cost-effective due to its ability to maximize the potential of each robot. How do you effectively orchestrate a diverse array of robots to work in tandem? Vessels of varying types and capabilities exist, with some secured firmly in position while others are designed with internal compartments; some are capable of hauling substantial cargo, whereas others are better suited for lighter tasks.

Zhang and his team developed a learning-based approach to scheduling robots called Studying For Voluntary Ready And Sub-Teaming (LVWS), which streamlined the process.

According to Zhang, robots’ responsibilities are comparable to those of humans. For example, they have a large field that is too vast to be covered by a single robot. The scenario requires a certain quantity of robots to collaborate in accomplishing the task.

Inconsistent behaviour is intentionally prepared. “We want robots to possess the capacity to pause proactively when they consistently choose a grasping solution to accomplish smaller tasks that are readily available, thereby preventing larger projects from being initiated.”

To evaluate the efficacy of their LVWS approach, researchers conducted a PC-based simulation, assigning 18 tasks to six robots and benchmarking it against four alternative strategies. On this laptop model, there is a well-established solution for resolving the issue in the shortest possible timeframe. Researchers simulated various approaches, calculating the suboptimality, or degree of deviation from the optimal solution, for each method.

The comparability strategies exhibited a significant variability, ranging from 11.8% to 23% below optimal levels. While the LVWS technique showed promise, its initial iteration was approximately 0.8% short of optimal performance. Williard Jose, a doctoral student in computer science at the Human-Centered Robotics Lab, notes that the optimal solution lies close to the theoretical maximum.

The delay in making a robotic wait significantly reduces the overall processing time of the entire system by allowing for more efficient task management and streamlining of tasks. Consider the scenario where you possess three robots, comprising two with a load capacity of four kilograms each and one capable of handling ten kilograms. A lone small robot toils away, tasked with relocating a massive 7-pound field.

“As an alternative to relying on a single, large robot to accomplish the task, it would be more practical for multiple smaller robots to work together, with each one focusing on its own specific role. This collaborative approach would allow the larger robot to dedicate its resources to a different, equally important task.”

If it’s inherently possible to identify the most effective response from the start, then what’s driving robots to seek a scheduling mechanism in the first instance? According to Jose, computing the precise answer poses significant difficulties due to its extremely lengthy calculation time. As robot populations grow and responsibilities expand, the impact becomes exponentially more significant. It’s unlikely that you’ll achieve the best possible outcome within a limited timeframe.

Upon examining fashion’s utilization of 100 tasks, researchers found that when it was impractical to calculate a precise answer, their approach completed the tasks in 22 timesteps, outperforming the comparative models with estimated ranges of 23.05 to 25.85 timesteps.

Zhang aims to further advance the development of automated robotics groups, particularly in scenarios where scalability is a crucial factor. For instance, he posits that a solitary, humanoid robot could prove an even more suitable fit within the compact confines of a single-family residence, whereas multi-robot systems would be a superior option for a large-scale industrial setting demanding specialized tasks.

The analysis was funded through the auspices of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) esteemed Director’s Fellowship, as well as a grant from the United States government. Nationwide Science Basis CAREER Award.

Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s joint X-Area event suddenly crashed on Monday afternoon. At 5:00 PM Pacific Time, a meeting was set to take place between the proprietor of X and the former President, but unfortunately, customers encountered an error message while attempting to join the discussion at that time.

“This house cannot be obtained,” a message reads on X, as you attempt to claim it.

The highly anticipated dialogue – a collaboration touted by both Trump and Musk – was expected to culminate in the final address from the outgoing U.S. president’s return to X. The live stream, dubbed an “Areas occasion,” commenced at precisely 5:42 pm Pacific Time, with Elon Musk referring to the event as a “dialog.” The stay occasion was slated to commence at 5:00 PM Pacific Time.

Trump returned to the social media platform on Monday morning, his first post since January 2021 when. Donald Trump’s Monday social media posts showcased a mix of promotional content, including dialogue with Elon Musk, alongside campaign-style advertisements and links directing users to his official website. Since leaving office, Trump has predominantly utilised his self-owned digital platform, Reality Social, for his online presence. For nearly two years, Trump had been permitted to post on X, with little incident. However, shortly after Elon Musk acquired Twitter and rebranded it as X, Trump’s access was curtailed.

Reports suggest that Elon Musk tweeted about a massive distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack targeting X, which allegedly caused the downtime of X House. According to X’s proprietor, the social media platform has recently conducted thorough testing, achieving a remarkable milestone of 8 million simultaneous users. During his testimony before the House committee, Musk linked the purported DDoS attack on Twitter’s servers to the backlash he faced from opposing the previous administration’s policies.

“As this massive assault demonstrates, significant resistance exists to people merely listening to President Trump’s words. I’m honored to engage in this discussion,” Elon Musk said as the debate began.

It’s hardly surprising this isn’t the first instance of an X House being used as a backdrop for a political campaign. During May 2023, Twitter’s top tech executives participated in a Twitter Space discussion with Elon Musk and entrepreneur David Sacks at the Twitter House.

Hong Kong Introduces Floor-Level Purple Lights to Deter Phone-Addled Pedestrians from Reckless Walking

Hong Kong has launched a pilot project to boost pedestrian safety through.

In metropolitan areas where pedestrians frequently use their phones, the tendency towards distraction at crosswalks is prevalent, prompting the installation of new traffic management systems at numerous intersections. The “Don’t Stroll” sign exudes energy, providing a prominent visual reminder to halt.

The initiative aims to mitigate risks arising from distracted driving habits, such as inattention and reckless intersections, whose prevalence has been fueled by the proliferation of smartphones. The Hong Kong Transportation Department revealed a staggering seven pedestrian fatalities from January to June, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced safety precautions. In response, authorities have imposed penalties on jaywalkers, with offenders facing fines of up to HK$2,000 – equivalent to approximately $.

Hong Kong Introduces Floor-Level Purple Lights to Deter Phone-Addled Pedestrians from Reckless Walking

Hong Kong is piloting a novel technology – ground-level gentle signals – to help prevent pedestrian accidents caused by distracted phone users walking along roads.

Currently, the units are installed at seven crosswalks across town as part of a six-month pilot program; if successful, the system can potentially be scaled up to additional locations. The inspiration for this initiative stemmed from observing successful security measures implemented globally, particularly in mainland China, where LED lights have been installed at crosswalks to warn distracted pedestrians.

A recent survey conducted in the Causeway Bay area found that nearly half of the 100 pedestrians observed were using their mobile phones while crossing the street. Residents Nick Chau and Adrian Chan found the lights captivating, capturing photos as a result, with Chau suggesting their potential utility in enhancing cellphone reception.

Despite their potential benefits, experts alongside city planner Ian Brownlee acknowledge that smart lights alone cannot address fundamental pedestrian safety concerns in Hong Kong, such as narrow sidewalks and congestion at crossing points.

Will HTC’s U24 Professional withstand the scrutiny of notorious reviewer Zack Nelson, or will it crumble under his demanding gaze like an opponent dealt a losing hand in blackjack?

0

, the HTC U24 Professional. The smartphone is equipped with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 application processor, which powers its operations, and features a 6.8-inch curved Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) display with a resolution of 1080 x 2436 pixels (Full HD+) and a dynamic refresh rate of 120Hz. The device features 12 gigabytes of Random Access Memory, 256 gigabytes of internal storage that can be expanded via microSD card, and boasts an IP67 rating ensuring protection against water and dust ingress.

The phone’s rear panel boasts a unique triple-camera setup, comprising a primary 50MP sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom capabilities. There is no periscope lens option available on this phone model. The HTC U24 Professional features a substantial 4600mAh capacity battery that supports rapid charging at 60W. The device features a standard 3.5mm earphone port for seamless audio connectivity.

Can the HTC U24 Professional withstand Zack’s notorious bending test?

HTC was once considered one of the most successful smartphone manufacturers, with notable hits such as the HTC Touch Pro, Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, G1 (the first Android device in the US), HTC Droid Incredible, Google Nexus One, and the HTC One M8. Despite launching the critically acclaimed One (M8), HTC struggled to regain its momentum with subsequent devices that failed to leave a lasting impression. Considering the OnePlus 8 is my absolute favorite cellphone of all time, this could be a shameful thought.

Video Thumbnail

The HTC U24 Professional’s specifications reveal a 50-megapixel front-facing camera, expandable storage via microSD card, and a 3.5mm audio jack for wired headphones. Attention-grabbing? Sure. Flasgship? No. The cellphone is decidedly mid-range. Wouldn’t the device be able to withstand the rigorous tests conducted by Zack Nelson in his JerryRig Everything video series, which includes learning torture?

The HTC U24 Professional’s innovative under-display fingerprint scanner unexpectedly revived a few unsettling memories for me?

The gadget features a durable aluminum body, making it simple to scrape away any paint that may have accumulated. The rear panel, crafted from durable plastic, allows Zack to showcase his creativity by carving a tombstone that seamlessly aligns with the iconic HTC logo embossed on the panel. While the video sparked enthusiasm, Nelson’s difficulties with the under-display fingerprint sensor were a setback, reminiscent of earlier struggles when he first tried it. Despite 15 attempts, the sensor remained nonfunctional.

Despite Zack’s claims, HTC phones are notoriously difficult to disassemble for repair purposes. It didn’t appear to cause Nelson much trouble disassembling the U24 Professional.

I would like to see HTC make another attempt at crafting a flagship device and wouldn’t mind if it borrowed design cues from the iconic One M8. Although Taiwan-based HTC seems uncertain about competing directly with Samsung, they may be content to focus on producing mid-range devices at affordable prices until they can deliver a design that rivals the Galaxy S series. It’s not the HTC that many people remember, which is indeed quite unpleasant.

Individuals are harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence to revolutionize their daily lives.

0

Two years after implementation, many of the expected productivity gains have yet to manifest. As a fascinating phenomenon has emerged, people are now surprisingly forming connections with artificial intelligence systems. As we navigate the digital landscape, we engage in conversations with AI entities, employing etiquette such as saying “please” and “thank you”, while also inviting them into our daily lives as confidants, companions, advisors, and educators.

What are the potential repercussions of these AI companions on individuals and society, asks Robert Mahari, a joint JD-PhD candidate at MIT Media Lab and Harvard Law School, alongside with Pat Pataranutaporn, a researcher at MIT Media Lab? Consumers are being warned that some AI-powered devices and virtual assistants may be designed with “dark patterns” that manipulate users’ behavior, fostering addictive intelligence and encouraging overuse. . Regulators scrutinize the role of effective oversight in mitigating the risks associated with AI-powered chatbots that have the potential to deeply penetrate human psychology.

The notion that humans will form intimate connections with artificial intelligence companions is no longer a distant possibility. Chatbots with much more emotive voices, akin to those of charismatic influencers like Oprah Winfrey or Tony Robbins, can reel us in even deeper. OpenAI observed that users often employed language suggesting a personal connection with AI models, such as “This is our last day together.” Notably, the company acknowledges that emotional attachment is a potential risk that may intensify following the introduction of its voice-activated chatbot.

While interactions with AI in text-based formats have already demonstrated the potential for deeper connections, Researchers led by Mahari discovered that sexual role-playing ranked as the second most popular application of artificial intelligence (AI), surpassing other uses in terms of frequency and engagement. Artistic composition stood out as the most scorching application of the chatbot. People valued this platform for facilitating creative thinking and strategic planning, as well as seeking clarification on various topics.

These creative and leisurely pursuits represent exceptional ways to harness the potential of AI chatbots. AI language models work by predicting the next most likely sequence of words in a sentence. Individuals are often guaranteed to be dishonest and may provide outdated misinformation, fabricate facts, or experience vivid misperceptions. When creating content from scratch, these problems occur far less frequently. Colleagues often begin by writing a primary “vomit draft” of their content, which is subsequently infused with their unique brand of humor following Rhiannon Williams’ June piece.

Although these situations may not yield tangible economic benefits. I’m fairly certain traders didn’t have smutbots on their minds when they invested billions in AI firms; rather, they expected tangible returns. The fact we still lack a killer app for AI explains why Wall Street’s enthusiasm has waned recently, leading to a more subdued outlook.

While hype surrounding “productive” circumstances has been immense, actual AI adoption has been surprisingly limited within these scenarios. When certain conditions are met, hallucinations can start to pose problems similar to those arising from coding errors, with information becoming distorted and prone to misinterpretation? The most cringe-worthy missteps of chatbot technology have arisen when individuals became overly reliant on AI-powered conversational tools, mistaking their artificial intelligence for infallible authority and veracity. Last year, a notable example of AI’s limitations emerged when Google’s summary feature, designed to condense online search results, mistakenly suggested that people consume rocks and apply glue to pizzas.

While AI may promise much, its limitations are often overlooked? However, when high expectations are set unrealistically, they inevitably fall short of reality, leading to disappointment and disillusionment when unrealistic promises fail to materialize. Isn’t this a natural consequence of AI’s maturation, prompting swift transformations? It may take several years to fully realize the investment’s potential and see a significant return on investment.

X accused of breaching GDPR norms by misusing knowledge for AI training, sparking controversy.

X accused of breaching GDPR norms by misusing knowledge for AI training, sparking controversy.

NOYB, a prominent European privacy advocacy group, has submitted nine separate GDPR complaints against X for exploiting the personal data of over 60 million European users to train “Grok,” its massive language model.

Without notifying customers or seeking their consent, X failed to disclose that it was utilizing personal data to train artificial intelligence models.

NOYB – Nothing to Hide – is a European nonprofit privacy advocacy group dedicated to enforcing digital rights and safeguarding information security through the implementation of laws such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The group’s actions have previously led to severe criticism on Meta, numerous complaints, and several fines for various GDPR violations.

Grok educated quietly

NOYB claims that Grok utilised enormous amounts of personal data from approximately 60 million customers within the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA), without a valid legal basis or individual consent, thereby egregiously contravening General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) principles.

The apparent opacity in Grok’s coaching tactics was initially detected in late July 2024 by @EastBakedOven, who noticed the disparity while examining recent modifications to X account settings.

The actual permission granted is: “Please allow your posts, interactions, inputs, and outcomes with Grok to be used for coaching and fine-tuning purposes.”

X reveals that this knowledge could be leveraged to refine Grok’s capabilities, potentially even sharing it with its counterpart, xAI, to achieve similar enhancements.

In the final week, Ireland’s Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) voiced satisfaction with the agreement it had reached with X, under which the company committed to suspending the processing of personal data until September.

The official announcement from DPC confirms that an unauthorized coaching session with Grok occurred within a specific timeframe of May 7 to July 31, 2024.

Noting the Data Protection Commissioner’s settlement with X, Max Schrems, chair of None of Your Business, remarked that the company neglected to consider the authorized perspective of the issue, instead focusing on proposals for mitigating measures to be implemented.

After conducting an exhaustive review of the text in question, I have revised it to the following:

NOYB has taken umbrage with DPC’s lackluster motion, deeming it “half-hearted.” As such, NOYB has undertaken a meticulous inventory of violations pertinent to GDPR Articles 5(1) and (2), 6(1), 9(1), 12(1) and (2), 13(1) and (2), 17(1)(c), 18(1)(d), 19, 21(1) and 25, with the aim of sparking a comprehensive investigation at once.

The Non-Obvious Yield-Based (NOYB) initiative is investigating the circumstances surrounding X’s failure to notify customers about Grok’s coaching services, which commenced two months prior to the inquiry. Furthermore, NOYB is seeking insight into what happened to European Union (EU)-related data already integrated into the coaching datasets and exploring methods to effectively distinguish between EU and non-EU information for accurate analysis and compliance purposes.

What puzzles the team is that Twitter continues to fail to require EU-based users to grant consent for utilizing their data to train Grok, a method specifically designed to comply with GDPR regulations regarding personal information usage?

Despite BleepingComputer’s efforts to engage with Twitter regarding NOYB’s motion and allegations, they have received only a “review later” automated response.
