OpenAI has unveiled Canvas, a new and innovative ChatGPT interface that enables users to explore and interact with AI-generated content in a more intuitive and creative way.

The OpenAI team is currently in beta testing with a novel workspace interface for ChatGPT, dubbed Canvas. The AI giant has unveiled its new ChatGPT workspace, now available for ChatGPT Plus and Pro users. Enterprise and Education customers will soon have the ability to access Canvas, with that functionality going live within the next week.

Canvas provides a digital workspace for collaborative learning and problem-solving, allowing users to engage with AI-driven tools like ChatGPT to tackle specific aspects of a project or task. When initiating a conversation, a supplementary window emerges alongside the primary dialogue space, enabling customers to compose text or code within this “canvas” and direct the model’s focus towards specific segments for editing, much like a peerless editor or code reviewer, according to the blog post.

Canvas can be opened manually by simply typing “use canvas” into your Immediate window. Canvas may automatically open whenever it senses a situation that would benefit from its functionality, according to the blog post.

Several productivity-enhancing shortcuts exist for both writing and coding endeavors. Customers may request suggested revisions, resizing options, degree-level modifications, and emoji incorporation in their written assignments from ChatGPT. Coders can leverage ChatGPT’s capabilities by offloading tedious tasks such as debugging, logging, and refactoring code, thereby reducing development time and improving overall code quality. The AI-assisted coding environment can facilitate the integration of logs, feedback, and additional readability features to enhance the coding experience in Canvas mode, allowing developers to easily port their code between languages like JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, C++, or PHP.

OpenAI’s Canvas feature enables ChatGPT to work alongside other AI assistants, each with its own workspace, allowing it to focus on specific aspects of a project, such as coding, through its targeted AI model.
