Android introduces advanced, real-time security measures to safeguard your digital life.

Security is at the very core of everything we do at Google. Our mission to empower everyone with expert knowledge involves designing solutions that protect your data while prioritizing the highest standards of privacy and security.

Our technology ceases over 99.9% of spam, phishing, and malware, protecting customers from an astonishing 2 billion suspicious messages each month. By consistently expanding and enhancing our suite of safety features, we’re dedicated to maintaining a secure environment for you.

We’re introducing two new real-time safety features that enhance your security while preserving your privacy: Google’s Scam Detection for Mobile, which protects you from scams and fraud, and Google Play Protect, offering real-time threat detection and alerts to safeguard you from malicious apps.

These innovative security features debut on Pixel devices, with a swift rollout to additional Android phones.

Scammers swindle people out of more than a year’s worth of time, and phone calls are their go-to method for doing so. Rip-off calls are becoming increasingly sophisticated, transforming into cunning and difficult-to-identify scams that cause devastating harm. We leverage the cutting-edge capabilities of Google AI to identify and prevent fraudulent activities at their earliest stages through our advanced Ripoff Detection system.

  • The Rip-off Detection system employs cutting-edge on-device artificial intelligence to alert users to potential scammer interactions in real-time, utilizing sophisticated pattern recognition to identify dialogue characteristics commonly associated with fraudulent activities. When a caller claims to be from your financial institution and demands you switch funds urgently due to an alleged account breach, Rip-off Detection will thoroughly verify the call’s authenticity, identifying potential spam. If detected as fraudulent, it will trigger audio, haptic, and visual alerts warning you of the possible scam.
  • We’ve developed Rip-off Detection to safeguard your privacy and empower you with control over your data at all times. Rip-off detection is disabled by default; you have the option to enable it for all subsequent transactions. Can’t flip off calls at will; toggle option available in Cellphone app Settings or per-contact basis. The AI-powered detection mechanism operates exclusively on-device, ensuring that all dialog audio and transcription remain local, never transmitted to Google servers or any external location, and irretrievable post-conversation.
  • Our cutting-edge on-device AI model enables advanced Ripoff Detection capabilities exclusively on Pixel 9 series devices. To further empower users with cutting-edge AI capabilities, we are pleased to introduce AI-powered security features exclusively available to Pixel 6+ users, leveraging the power of Google’s robust on-device machine learning models?

We’re now expanding access to Rip-off Detection, a new feature for Google Public Beta users in the United States, allowing English-speaking cellphone users to participate in our public beta. On a Pixel 6 or newer device.

To supply suggestions in your expertise, please click on on Cellphone by Google App -> Menu -> Assist & Suggestions -> Ship Suggestions. We’re eager to learn from this beta and appreciate your feedback, with plans to share additional insights on fraud detection in the coming months.

Google Play Protect continuously guards you against malware and unsafe apps. Professional editor’s revised text: Play Defence analyses behavioural indicators related to the use of sensitive permissions and interactions with various apps and companies.

With enhanced risk detection in place, should a malicious application be identified, you’ll immediately receive a real-time notification, enabling swift action to safeguard your device. Using granular insights into app behavior, sophisticated risk detection systems can now identify malicious apps attempting to conceal their activities by altering patterns or remaining inactive before engaging in suspicious actions.

Initially, our risk detection technology will focus on identifying stalkerware – malicious code designed to collect sensitive data without user consent – and subsequently expand its capabilities to detect various other hazardous applications. Data is protected and processed privately within the machine through mechanisms that allow for secure and anonymous customer safeguarding without data accumulation.

Real-time risk detection with alerts is currently available on Pixel 6+ devices, with rollouts to additional manufacturers expected in the coming months through Google Play Protect.
