Encryption is applied at the drive level using a unique encryption key, ensuring secure data storage and compliance with industry regulations such as GDPR and HIPAA. With the ability to manage keys independently of your operating system or applications, you can maintain control over data access and prevent unauthorized modifications.
In the European Union, United States, and Japan, Azure Knowledge Field Disk is typically available for use with hardware-based encryption enabled. These self-encrypting drives (SEDs) employ dedicated, hardware-based encryption, unaffected by software dependencies on the host machine. The Sedis leverages specialized native hardware capabilities on the storage device to facilitate secure data encryption, without relying on software dependencies on the host system. We now support comparable encryption on Linux as is available for our BitLocker-encrypted Knowledge Field disk drives on Windows.
Azure Knowledge Field Disk SED seamlessly integrates with select automotive clients’ in-car Linux-based logging systems via a SATA interface, obviating the need for a separate data copy to another in-car storage and expediting processes.

Prior to this update, Azure Knowledge Field was limited in its functionality, enabling knowledge transfer only to the default entry tiers of Azure Storage Accounts. To move data to the Cool tier in an Azure Storage Account that has the default set to hot, you would initially need to migrate the data to the hot tier using Azure Data Box, and then leverage this to move the data to the Cool tier once it’s been uploaded to Azure.
We’ve recently introduced a new range of entry-level folders within our machine’s folder structure. Regardless of the default entry tier in a destination Storage account, all copied knowledge placed within the “Cool” folder can be set to an entry tier of “cool”, allowing for uniform categorization of similar content across various folders and storage destinations.
