Today, we’re releasing Microsoft’s most comprehensive and transparent report to date globally. As we present our sixth consecutive annual report and eleventh year of global workforce data, we reflect on our advancements and opportunities for growth.

As we strategy our firm’s fiftieth anniversary, we stay deeply dedicated to D&I as a result of it’s what creates transformational options to probably the most complicated challenges for purchasers, companions and the world.

- As we spearhead the transition to an AI-driven ecosystem, our diverse workforce is expanding to encompass individuals from various professional spheres and job functions, with a notable increase in personnel operating within datacenter environments this year. The global datacenter workforce saw a significant surge of 23.9%, with an even more remarkable increase of 28.9% within the United States, a staggering growth that has more than tripled since 2020.

In our most international report yet, we took a significant step forward by incorporating staff from diverse backgrounds, including Indigenous personnel, members of the armed forces, and individuals with disabilities. Approximately 5.7 percent of the global workforce within our core Microsoft enterprise self-identified as having a disability, a year-over-year increase of 0.2 percentage points.
- Within our core Microsoft workforce, the proportion of diverse employees has risen to 31.6%, representing a year-over-year increase of 0.4 percentage points. While the representation of girls in technical roles has seen a modest increase, with an illustration of 27.2% and a year-over-year gain of 0.5 percentage points, there remains much work to be done to achieve greater parity.
- The representation of women in our core Microsoft workforce has consistently increased year-over-year across all levels of management, except for the executive level.
- The representation of Black and African American employees within Microsoft’s core workforce on the Companion+ Government stage increased by 0.5 percentage points year-over-year, reaching a total of 4.3%. Microsoft’s representation of Hispanic and Latinx staff within its core government workforce has surged to 4.6%, marking an impressive 0.8 percentage point increase year-over-year.
- The representation of racial and ethnic minority groups within our broader Microsoft workforce has risen to 53.9%, a notable increase of 0.6 percentage points year-over-year.
- Our bi-annual survey prioritizes employee expertise, enabling us to refine our strategies where needed. Staff overwhelmingly report feeling thriving, with global and US ratings of 76%. Within the Worker Alerts framework, we prioritize a focus on flourishing, defined as “feeling invigorated and empowered to tackle meaningful tasks,” thereby gauging staff’s perception of job engagement, an essential indicator of both personal and professional success. Staff satisfaction is gauged across three key indices of professional fulfillment: the sense of vibrancy, empowerment, and meaningfulness in one’s role.
- According to our daily alerts survey results, employee sentiment towards Microsoft’s commitment to fostering a more diverse and inclusive workplace has seen a notable two-point increase year-over-year, achieving an average rating of 79.
- Since launching our allyship initiative with staff in 2018, we’ve achieved impressive results that have positively impacted our culture and traditions. By mid-2024, a notable 95.6% of employees demonstrated varying levels of awareness regarding the concept of allyship, representing a substantial increase from the 65.0% recorded in our initial surveys conducted in 2019.

- As a pioneering Fortune 500 company, we became one of the initial entities to expand anti-discrimination policies and benefits to include LGBTQIA+ employees as early as 1989.
- By mid-June 2020, we publicly committed to a comprehensive plan, detailing specific actions and anticipated milestones by 2025, aimed at addressing racial injustice and equity issues affecting Black and African American communities in the United States.
- Launching immersive D&I studying simulations in 2021, permitting staff to observe essential D&I expertise, equivalent to recognizing and addressing bias, responding to microaggressions and demonstrating efficient allyship.
- Building upon more than a decade of experience in retraining Army service members through our Microsoft Software and Systems Academy (MSSA), we are now expanding that effort to empower Army spouses with the skills they need to excel in high-demand, portable IT careers this year.
