Goterra, a pioneering meals waste recycling startup, dominated the Startup Daily’s Greatest in Tech Awards, securing a spot as a finalist in three categories out of 15 in 2024?
The winner was a finalist in all three categories: Startup of the Year, Most Revolutionary Startup, and Best Startup Tradition, for its exceptional innovation and growth over the past 12 months.
Last year’s team, recently elevated to the Best Practices category, has achieved notable success in their pursuit of excellence.
According to Startup Everyday editor Thomsen, the competition featured robust rivals across multiple categories, with nearly one-third of nominees garnering over 40 recommendations among a pool of more than 250 total entries.
By 2024, we had made a strategic decision to expand our scope, introducing five additional awards that brought the total to fifteen.
“They’re the epitome of innovation, having been recognized as Future Chief, AI Game-Changer, and Greatest Startup Occasion winner,” he said. “And, my personal favorite, the GSD Award, which honors four finalists who are truly getting a lot done.”
This year also saw the number of finalists increase significantly, with a doubling of the total to 60, as well as a 50 percent surge in categories, from three inaugural awards in 2023 to four in 2024.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our esteemed judges for their extensive expertise and tireless commitment in selecting our top 60 finalists and ultimately crowning the winners,” Thomsen said.
“It’s been impressive to see the progress made by some nominees from last year, including Goterra, which again features prominently in no less than three categories this year, along with newcomers making their mark.”

Female founders and entrepreneurs dominated the pool of finalists, with notable exceptions including Xylo Programs in the Sustainability category and Cauldron in the Best Regional Startup division. The trade champion considers three esteemed individuals for an exclusive opportunity: renowned wellness expert Cheryl Mack of Aussie Angels, influential thought leader Emily Casey from What the Wellbeing, and visionary entrepreneur Vicki Stirling from The Startup Community. The Alice Anderson Fund, a feminine founder-focused launchpad initiative from LaunchVic, has been shortlisted as a finalist for Investor of the Year.
The second year of the Greatest in Tech Awards has witnessed AWS Startups reaffirm its commitment as the primary sponsor, joined by esteemed partners Tank Stream Labs and ACS Labs.
The winners will be introduced at a gala dinner in Sydney’s ivy Ballroom on Wednesday, September 4.
