In recent years, the evolution of iPhone processors has deviated significantly from the norm. Fortunately, Apple has regained its ability to address issues efficiently, reminiscent of its earlier days.
For those who’ve been keeping up with the processors powering lower-end iPhones compared to the Pro models, you’ve noticed that in recent years, Apple started shipping the same chip used in last year’s Pro model in the latest base model iPhone. The iPhone 14 Pro was driven by the A16 Bionic processor. The iPhone 14 still leveraged the A15 Bionic processor, originally introduced in the iPhone 13 Pro series.
While it wasn’t always the norm, this arrangement proved effective for several years running. While some critics argued that the standard iPhone model’s processor was outdated, the reality is that it proved more than capable of handling the demands placed upon it by everyday users. Despite this, complications arose anyway.
Apple may also be addressing this misunderstanding – quite possibly for a noble purpose.
All four iPhone 16 models are expected to feature Apple’s new A18 chip.
According to a report, codes discovered in Apple’s backend suggest the possibility of five new iPhone models featuring the company’s latest processor, each boasting a distinct point value out of 5. While some may speculate about the timing of the iPhone Pro’s release by Apple, I don’t think that’s what’s at play here.
Apple may unveil a quartet of new iPhones, including the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, as well as the highly anticipated next-gen iPhone SE. It appears that the latest iPhones, including the iPhone SE, will all feature Apple’s advanced A18 Bionic processor. Not so quick.
While each new iPhone may feature a version of the A18 chip, the A18 Professional is reportedly limited to the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. If the goal is to maintain a consistent performance hierarchy across the lineup, wouldn’t it make more sense to equip all three new iPhones with the same high-performance A17 chip? It never properly existed. The iPhone 16 was equipped with the A16 chip, while the iPhone 16 Pro came with the more advanced A17 chip; therefore, it is not possible to compare a base-level A17 processor in this context.
Apple is reportedly jumping ahead to the A18 chipset in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, a move that seems strategically planned to ensure seamless compatibility with impending features. The A17 Professional chip’s unique energy signature enables the Sole to excel in various tasks due to its advanced processing capabilities.
One thing is undeniable: A18 has all the makings of a powerhouse.
