Establishing the Coalition for Safe Artificial Intelligence (CoSAI): A Collaborative Effort to Ensure Responsible AI Development

Today, we’re thrilled to announce the successful rollout of. CoSAI is a collaborative endeavour comprising leaders from the trade sector, research institutions, and construction companies, united in their quest to significantly improve the safety aspects of artificial intelligence applications. Operating beneath the aegis of OASIS Open, CoSAI functions as a global organization that sets standards for open-source technologies.

The founding members of CoSAI welcome industry leaders from a diverse range of companies, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Amazon, Cisco, Cohere, GenLab, Google, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Nvidia, Wiz, Chainguard, and PayPal, mirroring the collaborative approach of prominent organizations. Our shared goal is to build a future where knowledge is not only cutting-edge but also inherently secure from the outset.

CoSAI optimizes current AI endeavors by exceling at integrating and harnessing AI securely across organisations, from startups to enterprises, at every stage of adoption and maturity. CoSAI partners with NIST, the Open-Supply Safety Foundation (OpenSSF), and other key stakeholders through cooperative AI safety research, best practice knowledge sharing, and synchronized open-source projects.

CoSAI’s scope encompasses the secure development, deployment, and operation of AI technologies to counteract risks akin to model manipulation, theft, data poisoning, injection, and confidential information extraction, thereby ensuring robustness against potential threats in the AI ecosystem. Practitioners would benefit from integrated safety features that allow them to harness cutting-edge AI capabilities without requiring expertise as consultants or developing a deep understanding of every aspect of AI safety.

The accessible place, CoSAI will partner with diverse entities leading technical advancements in responsible and secure AI, including the World Wide Web Consortium, the Data Science Council of America, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Even among the most experienced organizations, assessing and mitigating AI-specific dangers without clear greatest practices and standardized approaches remains a pressing issue.

Ensuring safety in artificial intelligence demands a unified effort; leveraging AI’s potential against itself is a straightforward strategy for achieving this goal. To navigate the digital landscape securely for all stakeholders – individuals, developers, and businesses – it is essential to adhere to regular safety protocols and best practices consistently.
