Meta’s flagship social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Messenger, have been restored after experiencing a prolonged outage due to “technical issues” that left many users without access for several hours on Wednesday.
The company reported that they were “99% complete” with their final checks, posting an update approximately four hours after initially disclosing the outages.
The corporation has declined to provide further information on the root cause of the problem or a timeline for its full resolution. As of 4:30 PM PT Wednesday, Meta has officially confirmed “primary disruptions” to its business and transparency tools, with some services marked as “resolved” or “recovery in progress.” Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads, and Messenger appear to be functioning normally once more.
Thanks for bearing with us! We’re 99% complete, just conducting a few final checks to ensure everything is ready for completion. We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience caused by our recent system outage, which has disrupted the service and impacted your ability to access our platform.

Throughout the day, a significant number of outage reports flooded Downdetector’s tracker page dedicated to Facebook (Fb.com), with users from both the United States and Europe experiencing difficulties in loading and using Meta’s suite of mobile applications. Meta’s website was initially displaying a generic message: “This webpage isn’t available right now.” When asked about the issue by Engadget, the company responded with a brief statement, attributing the problem to a “technical issue” affecting some users’ ability to access their apps.
A major outage occurred at Meta in March 2024, disrupting customer access to its applications and services for a period of approximately two hours. According to Meta’s communications director, Andy Stone, the outage was caused by an issue that is consistent with the previous explanations provided by the company.
The outage significantly impacted a large number of users, affecting over 10 million people globally, with the majority being Meta enterprise instrument users.
Meta has provided additional insight into the status of the outage, detailing specific timelines and expectations for resolution.
