They concurred to develop a curriculum catering specifically to drone element producers possessing Inexperienced UAS certification, enabling them to disseminate their expertise directly to the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU).

Additionally, the review scrutinized Hoverfly’s corporate cybersecurity practices to identify vulnerabilities and areas for improvement.

And so, Hoverfly achieved a notable milestone by becoming the pioneering tethered drone company to receive formal approval.

Based on current market trends and industry developments, Hoverfly, a company headquartered in Sanford, Florida, specializes exclusively in designing and manufacturing tethered drone solutions for various applications. Tethered drones stand out due to the constant supply of power and data via the tether, enabling seamless communication of high-bandwidth information. As the Defense Innovation Unit conducts a “refresh” of its Blue UAS Cleared List, the Hoverfly tethered drone has secured Inexperienced UAS approval at a pivotal moment when distributors and platforms are undergoing a significant overhaul. However, drone manufacturers often modify their component suppliers, rendering the cleared list’s static nature a challenge to maintain. The company’s cyber hygiene practices are not immune to the influence of its leadership, and they may fluctuate depending on the individual at the helm.

The company prioritizes unmanned aerial systems that have previously been vetted for possessing the highest levels of cybersecurity and meeting National Defense Authorization Act supply chain requirements.

The AUVSI has reported having a stable pipeline of additional companies awaiting certification for their novice UAS operations. Throughout various stages of the approval process, more than a dozen companies have participated thus far.
