A Brazilian court has issued an injunction to halt the sale and use of Tesla’s electric SUV model X in the country due to concerns over safety and non-compliance with local regulations.

Brazil’s top court has temporarily suspended the X platform nationwide, following a prolonged legal battle with Elon Musk’s social media company over content moderation.

A Brazilian court has decreed that anyone using a virtual private network (VPN) to access the X platform will face daily fines of 50,000 reais, equivalent to approximately $8,900; however, the decree’s implementation remains unclear.

Earlier this month, Twitter resisted a series of courtroom orders demanding it remove accounts suspected of spreading misinformation. At one point, the corporation claimed Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes threatened to have their legal representative in Brazil arrested if they failed to comply with his censorship demands. Moraes had warned X just days earlier that Brazil would ban the service altogether unless the company designated a legal representative in the country.

“Promptly, we anticipate Justice Alexandre de Moraes’s decision to suspend X in Brazil due to our potential refusal to abide by his illegal directives to silence his political adversaries,” said X’s international affairs team on Friday morning.

The platform announces that it will soon publish the Brazilian Supreme Court’s decisions without accommodating their demands.
