TL;DR

  • Reports suggest that Google is actively working on a novel Pixel laptop.
  • Dubbed “Snowy,” this laptop boasts an impressive array of premium hardware components.
  • While rumors have circulated suggesting that the Pixel Laptop could potentially run on Chrome OS, a more plausible platform might actually be Android.

Five years ago, choosing a Google Chromebook was a straightforward decision. The Pixelbook Go had just launched, but even its novelty was still going strong. Despite years passing, Google’s enthusiasm for Chrome OS innovation seems to have diminished – we’ve never received a worthy Pixelbook 2 sequel, and the Pixel Slate launched without a compatible keyboard option, leaving users disappointed? While the sounds may prioritize lasting fixes for keyboard errors, reports suggest Google is also working on another approach to tackle this issue, as improvements emerge for the upcoming Pixel Laptop.

Google has reportedly given the go-ahead to develop a high-end, premium laptop bearing the Pixel brand, consistent with its existing product lineup. While affirming ongoing improvement initiatives, it’s noted that Google has dedicated a team, codenamed “Snowy,” to spearhead this effort – within the scope of this report.

The devices are expected to benefit from advanced hardware capabilities, comparable to those found in high-end MacBook Pro models or Microsoft’s Surface Laptops, although specific details have not yet been disclosed. The bigger question remains: what operating system would power this device, and while Chrome OS could be “a possibility,” it’s also “not entirely confirmed at this point”?

What if Google’s ChromeOS doesn’t merely rival Android, but instead, doubles down on its own operating system to challenge the status quo of mobile computing? The Google Pixel series seamlessly integrates with other devices across its hardware ecosystem, allowing for seamless transitions between the Android Pixel Pill 2 and the Chrome Pixel Laptop. Given the firm’s reported changes in software focus, it seems reasonable to speculate that a Pixel laptop running on Android would be their most likely next move.

The implications of this development would be profound for Google’s position in the wearable market. While there may be a significant gap in pricing between the two options, considering hardware differences, it’s currently unclear due to the lack of detailed information. As we progress further into the year, we should start gaining a deeper understanding of each team member, with a specific focus on the performance of our newly acquired laptop computers.
