Facebook claims that its newly launched app icon was merely an isolated technical error, despite widespread outcry.

In recent days, Facebook users have sparked outrage on social media after the app’s iPhone icon underwent an unexpected redesign, adopting a bold black and blue aesthetic. As it appears, despite this being seemingly an issue, it’s actually just a minor glitch, and Facebook has already initiated the process of resolving it.

According to sources, the tweak to Facebook’s logo was simply a result of technical issues, rather than a deliberate rebranding effort. “This issue was caused by a technical glitch, which has now been resolved.” Meta’s communications supervisor, Dave Arnold, said in a statement that users will see the fix once they update their app.

The rebranded icon marked a significant departure from Facebook’s traditional blue and white aesthetic, prompting widespread reaction from customers regarding the change. The original design intended to display a blue background accompanied by a white icon, but instead, an incorrect iteration showcased a black background paired with a blue icon.

While iOS 18’s recent update introduces a feature to turn all Home Screen icons dark, this Facebook bug also impacted users running iOS 17. Users running iOS 18 also reported noticing a variant of the Facebook icon with a white backdrop and prominent blue logo. Let’s wait and see whether both of these icons will appear when Facebook launches its replacement for iOS 18 next month.

The latest version of the Facebook app, featuring its new mounted icon design, is now available for download. Disasters averted, and we’re grateful for the extended weekend ahead.
