Astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) currently have access to a range of TV programs, thanks to the efforts of NASA and other space agencies.

Aboard space missions, astronauts face a multitude of complex and challenging tasks daily. Despite the demands of their rigorous training and missions, astronauts still crave moments for unwinding and recharging. If desired, individuals may opt to watch a movie or television program. How about: What’s the choice like at a height of 250 feet? A surprisingly good performance is often overlooked by those with limited perspective?

In 2016, Gizmodo filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with NASA seeking access to all film and television programs made available to astronauts. As the astronauts settled in for well-deserved downtime, this snapshot offers a fascinating glimpse into their lives beyond the thrill of space travel. We recently decided to file a new FOIA request to learn about upcoming movies and television shows that may be streaming on the platform.

Initially, we commence by outlining a list of television shows. What’s new? Quite a considerable amount, it appears. In recent years, space-themed series have gained popularity, including Hulu’s 2018 production featuring Sean Penn, the highly-acclaimed alternate history drama that garnered critical acclaim, as well as the satirical comedy that poked fun at the Trump era. What’s for dinner? Fresh ingredients, exciting recipes, and the art of cooking come together in this culinary journey.

The trilogy of space opera, comprising “Star Wars”, “Star Trek”, and “Mass Effect”, has captivated audiences with its blend of action, adventure, and intergalactic intrigue. However, numerous Earth-bound sitcoms have emerged over the past few years, including The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Schitt’s Creek. Astronauts can unwind with a variety of HBO shows, including popular series such as Game of Thrones, Westworld, and Chernobyl, among many others.

The International Space Station (ISS) also hosts a range of streaming services, including Apple TV+, Netflix Originals, and Disney+ exclusive content. While most reveals feature a majority of their seasons, a few notable exceptions do exist. The International Space Station (ISS) is stocked with episodes from seasons one, two, and four of a popular television series. The place’s season three? That half isn’t clear.

There exist additional documentary sequences dating back to 2008, 1998, and 2005 respectively.
