Microsoft announces that Crimson Hat Linux will become an official Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) distribution.

Microsoft announces its partnership with Red Hat to integrate Crimson Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) as the official Linux distribution within Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), allowing users to run Linux environments seamlessly on Windows without requiring a separate virtual machine.

The transfer was introduced by them on November 19? As WSL users are currently able to run any Linux distribution of their choice, the official recognition of RHEL will simplify the process of discovering and installing Red Hat Enterprise Linux, aligning with Microsoft’s vision. Crimson Hat has announced plans to release a Crimson Hat Enterprise Linux distribution optimized for Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) in the coming months. WSL distros will ship with a newly designed package format intended to significantly improve how they’re packaged and deployed.

Crimson Hat highlights the benefits of its collaboration for seamless hybrid cloud implementations. While Red Hat’s Linux-based hybrid cloud expertise has gained traction, many enterprise IT teams and development groups have standardised on Windows environments, noted Ron Pacheco, Senior Director of the RHEL Ecosystem at Red Hat. “For developers building Linux applications on Windows systems, having the same RHEL environment available in WSL for both development and deployment can be a significant game-changer, streamlining processes and reducing resources spent on testing and debugging.”
