Upon upgrading to iOS 18 on my cellphone, I was met with an unexpected alteration: the majority of my keyboard layouts have been transformed into “bilingual” settings. I rarely require any of my keyboard layouts to be bilingual, as it’s utterly frustrating to try and decipher which language I’m writing in – usually a mix – when, like me, you typically draft content in multiple languages. Autocorrect has grown to be virtually fully unusable due to this transformation.
With an impressive collection of over 20 keyboard layouts, including around 15 bilingual options, I’m aware this may be an unusual occurrence. Nevertheless, you do find yourself frequently navigating through the majority of these layouts with ease. Unfortunately, when I attempt to remove foreign languages from my bilingual keyboard, it seems you instead eliminate English, effectively converting it into a single-language, non-English layout. As a substitute, I must now remove 15 layouts, re-add them individually, actively select the single-language option since bilingual is now the default, and then reorder them as I prefer? Please provide the text you’d like me to edit, and I’ll respond with the improved version in the same style. I’m struggling with a user interface that’s completely unacceptable, prompting me to seek a solution to permanently disable the bilingual feature and force all keyboards, both present and future, to operate in a single language. Despite my efforts, I haven’t found a suitable setting or technique yet.
It’s not possible to completely disable the bilingual keyboard on an iOS device. However, you can adjust your iPhone or iPad settings to switch between languages more easily.
