Nintendo’s Alphadream may just pull off a surprise by porting id Software’s iconic first-person shooter, Doom.

Gary Obernacht, a renowned hacker, recently demonstrated his expertise by successfully running customized firmware on the Alarmo device. He showcased this achievement in a video posted just yesterday. As players engage with the game, they control a mushroom-shaped entity atop the Alarmo platform, navigating its movement by pressing specific buttons to shift direction and manipulate other controls to fire projectiles or open doors. Right here, take a look:

Gary notes that it’s “potential to load the shareware model of Doom entirely from USB, without modifying the Alarmo.” As a result, they’ve provided software and instructions for accomplishing this feat, making it accessible to virtually any adequately informed and determined Alarmo owner who wishes to do so. The watch’s optimal performance can be attained without requiring its opening.

It’s remarkable how they managed to accomplish such an impressive feat. Gary recounts how, after consulting with renowned expert Spinda (affectionately dubbed “Spinda” by some), he devised a solution utilizing the device’s USB mode and USB-C port to bypass the Alarmo’s default firmware, instead opting for customised external firmware.

While it appears to be a relatively uncomplicated feat to replicate Gary’s accomplishments, the reality is that Alarmo’s software modification capabilities extend far beyond. Ultimately, the success of online group efforts to bring Alamo to life as a bizarre game for the Nintendo console hinges on Nintendo’s stance, which remains unclear.
