A European-based deep tech venture capital firm dedicated to photonics startups, founded in 2023, has secured €5 million in funding, courtesy of a lead investment from Make investments-NL and additional support from a diverse group of individual investors.
Funding not only fortifies the fund’s financial foundation but also highlights the pivotal role the photonics industry plays in the Netherlands, as well as its competitive standing within Europe and on the global stage? The Netherlands boasts a premier position in built-in photonics, a crucial area of expertise. Sustained investments from both the private and public sectors are crucial to nurture and advance this management system effectively.
Making investments-NL now aligns itself with a prestigious group of traders, comprising renowned tech traders, prominent household offices, the Brabant Economic Development Company (BOM), PhotonDelta, Oost NL, the University of Twente, and TNO, all of which have championed the growth of PhotonVentures. The fund is targeting a remaining close of €100 million by the end of this year.
By adopting a comprehensive ecosystem approach, PhotonVentures makes strategic investments in cutting-edge photonics startups, well-equipped to thrive amidst the rapidly changing landscape of the photonics industry. The fund’s portfolio corporations capitalize on accelerated access to customer insights and a global network to facilitate their growth. To date, PhotonVentures has made a total of 14 investments in prominent photonics companies, alongside Good Photonics, Impact Photonics, Phix, PhotonFirst, and VitreaLab.
