Bose’s soundbars and Extremely Open Earbuds are now capable of seamless collaboration in innovative ways.

Bose is fusing the power of its soundbars and clip-on technologies to introduce a groundbreaking new feature: immersive theater-like audio, convincingly replicating the sensation of having dedicated rear surround sound speakers – all achievable through audio playback via earbuds alone?

Because the $299 Extremely Open Earbuds won’t obstruct your ear canal, you’ll still be able to discern the audio emanating from the soundbar with clarity, while the buds focus on reproducing the rear surround effects. Bose boasts that its proprietary Bose Private Surround Sound technology delivers an unmatched immersive listening experience, simulating a 360-degree soundscape without the need for expensive surround systems or dedicated home theaters.

At Bose’s headquarters in Framingham, Massachusetts, I visited the facility in early January and witnessed a live demonstration of the company’s cutting-edge technology, which was still undergoing refinement. I once felt genuinely astounded by its persuasive power. While Bose doesn’t overindulge in tricks, its technology still lends a welcome depth to the audio experience.

“Not everyone wants to invest in rear audio systems, enveloping sound systems, or similar high-end features,” said Raza Haider, Bose’s chief product and procurement officer.

“The team here successfully brought a home theater-like experience to life without relying on any speakers other than just a soundbar.”

The Bose Private Encore Sound will debut on the company’s latest Soundbar, launching soon for $499. The Dolby Atmos soundbar boasts five drivers, offering AI-enhanced dialogue clarity and ample music playback possibilities via Wi-Fi connectivity, plus seamless integration with popular streaming services including Google Cast, Spotify Connect, and Apple’s AirPlay 2. Private Eyesound will debut at the company’s flagship Good Extremely Soundbar later this autumn.

The Extreme Open Earbuds now boast a unique selling point within Bose’s portfolio, thanks to their Private Enclose Sound feature, which enables you to fully immerse yourself in your audio experience; however, this capability is exclusive to these earbuds and cannot be used with any of Bose’s over-ear headphones or the QuietComfort Extreme Earbuds, as they possess a closed design that would undermine the effectiveness of soundbar audio. The Extremely Open Earbuds provide exceptional comfort, allowing for extended wear without causing discomfort or distraction, making them ideal for immersive listening experiences.

While a managed demo is indeed a significant consideration, I’d like to thoroughly explore this opportunity to gain in-depth insight into Bose’s Private Encompass Sound technology, including the precise audio quality being transmitted to the earbuds, amongst other details? While some may expect tech corporations to solely focus on their core competency, it’s indeed heartening to see them venture into uncharted territories and reimagine how we enjoy home entertainment.
