BlueSky simplified detaching submits from quoted reblogs.

Bluesky has unveiled a suite of innovative “anti-toxicity” features designed to empower users with the tools they need to safeguard themselves against online harassment and abusive behavior, including dogpiling. Model 1.90 of the decentralized social media platform offers tools to limit exposure to unwanted interactions with other users, such as the option to dissociate your post from anyone else’s quotation of it.

The feature allows customers to view all posts quoting their original submission, while detaching their authentic post to prevent readers from seeing it and engaging with it unintentionally. You may already reduce disengagement by blocking a quote poster, but detachment offers a more nuanced alternative.

The drawback, as Bluesky notes, is that this replacement allows customers to remove posts containing disinformation or misinformation from being linked to quote posts that correct it. The company announced in its blog that it will address the issue by proactively labeling organizations and striving to integrate a feature similar to Neighborhood Notes at some point. By acknowledging the compromise involved in sharing online, we can temper our expectations and navigate the complexities of digital discourse.

The latest version 1.90 of the Bluesky app introduces a new feature allowing users to conceal replies to their posts by moving them to a dedicated “Hidden Replies” tab, thereby reducing their visibility while still maintaining access. (Reply hiding is available on X, formerly Twitter, after years.) Bluesky can also opt out of presenting individual replies in the “Following” feed, instead showcasing conversations comprising replies between at least two followers.

Since quote submit removals and hidden replies are now publicly accessible information, akin to blocking various users. BlueSky notes that its app may not display all quote detaching details on a single submission, but this data remains accessible via the BlueSky API.

The platform now enables users to prioritize their notification feed by filtering updates from individuals they follow, alongside the capacity to opt-out of being showcased in curated lists. When someone blocks an individual with curated content, the blocked user will be excluded from all relevant lists, except for moderation tools governing muting and blocking?

While a wide range of instruments is available to prevent mobbing on the platform, Bluesky notes that this feature is not yet complete, with additional adjustments being made to combat ban evasion, botnets, and other forms of toxicity. The company plans to provide further details about these efforts next week.
