This milestone is particularly noteworthy as it represents our commitment to optimizing and customizing every level of the infrastructure stack – from the fundamental silicon components to the servers themselves, and ultimately, the companies that rely on them. To drive innovation and optimise its cloud infrastructure, Microsoft has vertically integrated {hardware} and software components in its Azure Cobalt 100-based VMs, delivering a seamless end-to-end approach that balances performance, power efficiency, and scalability to meet customer needs.

Our new Cobalt 100-based VMs comprise a trio of series: the budget-friendly Dpsv6-series, the performance-focused Dplsv6-series, and the memory-intensive Epsv6-series virtual machine lineup. These processors deliver up to 50% greater value efficiency compared to our previous-generation Arm-based VMs, making them an attractive option for a range of scale-out and cloud-native Linux-based workloads, including data analytics, network and utility servers, open-source databases, caches, and more. 

The brand new Azure Cobalt 100-based VMs deliver significantly enhanced performance across various workloads, boasting up to 1.4 times greater CPU efficiency, as well as up to 1.5 times better results on Java-based workloads and a remarkable 2x increase in performance for net servers, .NET functions, and in-memory cache operations when compared to earlier generations of Azure Arm-based VMs. These VMs further enhance performance by supporting up to 4x native storage IOPS with NVMe technology, alongside a notable increase of up to 1.5x community bandwidth compared to their predecessors, the Azure ARM-based VMs.

Broadly available across Canada, Central US, East US 2, East US, Germany, Japan, Mexico, North Europe, Southeast Asia, Sweden, Switzerland, UAE, and West Europe regions, the brand new VMs can be accessed in West US 2 as well. The regions will continue to expand in 2024 and beyond with the addition of Australia East, Brazil South, France Central, India Central, South Central US, UK South, West US 3, and West US, all set to become operational soon.
