Apple has unveiled an updated iMac as part of a series of Mac-centric announcements made throughout the week. The company has given its all-in-one desktop PC a boost with an updated processor and fresh colour options.
The all-new 2024 iMac has been built on the cutting-edge Apple M4 processor. The new processor boasts a ten-core design, comprising four performance cores and six efficiency cores, touted as 1.7 times faster than its M1 counterpart and 1.3 times faster than its predecessor, the M3 model. in Excel. The latest GPU boasts up to 10 cores, delivering performance that’s not only two times faster than the M1 GPU but also 10% quicker than the M3’s for seamless gaming experiences. The all-new iMac boasts a consistent 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, identical to its predecessors. A new option for users is the availability of a nano-texture glass, designed to significantly reduce glare compared to the standard glossy finish. The optional glass upgrade requires separate configuration when purchasing, adding $200 to the total cost. This assortment shouldn’t be displayed on the lower mannequin.
The latest chipset boasts enhanced connectivity capabilities. The Premium Mannequin boasts four Thunderbolt 4 ports, complete with Ethernet support, enabling seamless connectivity. It can drive two 6K displays at 60Hz or a single 8K display at 120Hz, delivering exceptional visual performance. Despite this, the lower-tiered mannequin will still offer just two Thunderbolt 4 ports without Ethernet support, which can be configured separately for an additional $30; it also has limited compatibility with only one external display at 6K resolution and a frame rate of 60Hz.
The entrance webcam has been upgraded to a cutting-edge 12MP 1080p model, seamlessly integrating with Apple’s FaceTime feature by utilizing a wide-angle camera that dynamically adjusts its field of view and crops the image based on the individuals in frame. The Desk View feature leverages the iMac’s expansive camera field of view, incorporating ultrawide capabilities that enable seamless capture of desk contents below the device, coupled with precise perspective correction for a crystal-clear visual representation. Apple has updated its Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and optional Magic Trackpad with USB-C connectivity, replacing the previous Lightning-based designs. The colors are also precisely matched to the iMac, mirroring a familiar design element from previous models.
Apple has unveiled a refreshed palette of six distinct colors, joining the timeless silver shade that remains unchanged in its latest offerings. Despite the initial similarity, it took some effort to discern the distinct advancements from prior technological innovations, as each iteration was essentially a nuanced variation on a familiar theme. The blue subtly shifts towards aqua, with a decrease in navy undertones; the purple softens into lavender, with violet nuances diminishing; pink leans away from raspberry’s boldness, embracing bubblegum’s sweetness; inexperienced takes on a more pronounced jade hue, tempering turquoise’s brightness; and yellow brightens to a warm lemon sherbet tone, tempered by pumpkin’s richness – while orange lightens by half a shade. The 2024 iMac starts at $1,299 for its base configuration, featuring an 8-core CPU, an 8-core GPU, 16GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and two USB ports.
Starting at $1499, the mannequin features a powerful combination of 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, along with four ports and the option to upgrade to nano-texture glass.
