As Apple’s latest operating systems approach public release, beta versions of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, tvOS 18.1, visionOS 2.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 are now available for testing.
The first beta releases of iOS 18.1, macOS Sequoia 15.1, and iPadOS 18.1 will be available following the seventh developer build, scheduled to land on September 7, or for macOS, around August 25. The sixth settlers arrived safely on shore. The release candidate (RC) for tvOS 18.1 arrives following five developer betas, while visionOS 2.1 takes six iterations to reach its RC milestone.
At the time of publication, there is no RC construct available for watchOS 11.1. As Apple’s latest launch has been accompanied by various RC versions, but not watchOS in this list, it seems improbable that a subsequent release candidate will follow shortly.
Apple has released iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1, with build numbers that read 22B82 in each case. The all-new macOS version 15.1 boasts the identifier number 24B82, while visionOS has been upgraded to 22N580, and tvOS 18.1 now carries the designation 22J6578.
Apple simultaneously released updates for both discharge candidates alongside iOS 17.7.1 and iPadOS 17.7.1, build number 21H216.
The primary distinction between iOS 18.1 and its predecessor, iOS 18, lies in the introduction of Apple Intelligent Systems, a groundbreaking technology that leverages the power of generative artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities. While some Apple Intelligence features may not be available at launch time.
Apple has put preliminary intelligence options to the test, featuring a novel animation, “Kind to Siri,” enhanced query comprehension, contextual awareness, detailed product information, and an array of writing tools.
The third developer beta release comes with a new feature for images, enabling users to remove unwanted elements from their photos.
Despite being the fifth iteration of iOS updates, Apple’s 18.1 adjustments have had surprisingly little connection to their Artificial Intelligence initiatives. The updates encompassed enabling seamless file transfer via drag-and-drop functionality when using iPhone mirroring on macOS, introducing a novel selfie option within Camera Settings, and refining Management Center for enhanced user experience.
The iOS 18.1 update prioritizes the development of sleep apnea detection capabilities, streamlines connectivity and toggle settings within the Health app’s Management feature, and introduces alternative features unrelated to Apple Intelligence specifically. The construction project proceeded with additional non-Apple intelligence upgrades.
Customers should not install beta or RC software on primary “mission-critical” hardware, as there is a small risk of data loss due to unforeseen issues. Testers should subsequently utilize secondary devices and verify the availability of essential data backups.
