Apple is expected to unveil its latest iPhone 16 models and iOS 18 software update during their highly anticipated annual iPhone event, scheduled for September 9th tomorrow. Following that event, Apple introduced a crucial innovation in its Wallet app: “Tap to Provision.”
Apple unexpectedly disabled the “Faucet to Provision” feature on Thursday evening, impacting users running iOS 18.0 or the iOS 18.1 beta. Despite the uncertainty surrounding Apple’s decision to disable the feature, it’s likely that they deemed it wasn’t ready for widespread use, considering the timing of their action.
The “Faucet to Provision” feature in iOS 18’s Wallet app enabled users to seamlessly add a new debit or bank card to Apple Pay by simply tapping their NFC-supported card against their iPhone. When enabled as the default method, this feature streamlined adding a new credit card to Apple Pay, allowing users to bypass the tedious process of either scanning their card’s details or inputting them manually.
To set up a new card in Apple Pay, you need to do more than just tap the card itself. To complete the process, you can choose from various methods to add a card to Apple Pay, one of which involves requesting a code from your financial institution via SMS or an alternative verification method.
Given my experience, this feature doesn’t seem to integrate seamlessly with many of the games I play, which might explain why Apple is holding off on its implementation.
Hopefully, it won’t take too long before we see this feature returned.
