Australia’s Uncrewed Systems Industry Stakes Claim on Enhanced Visual Representation with AAUS-ACUO Partnership

The Australian Association for Unmanned Systems (AAUS) and the Australian Certified Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Operators (ACUO) have today launched an exciting new chapter for the unmanned technologies industry in Australia, combining under a single umbrella to more effectively represent and promote the sector. As a crucial step forward, AAUS will promptly excel in its mission to support the uncrewed technologies industry, whereas ACUO, having served with distinction over the years, will officially cease all operations.

The consolidation represents a unified voice for Australia’s unmanned technologies sector, combining the expertise, influence, and resources of both entities under one umbrella. As the industry’s preeminent leader, AAUS will spearhead initiatives for enhanced coverage, innovation, and business growth while honoring the heritage and achievements of ACUO.

The Australian Association for Unmanned Systems proudly announces the launch of a dedicated section catering specifically to the nation’s autonomous technology industry. “We’re strengthening our collective presence by partnering with ACUO, creating a more united and cohesive force capable of driving progress and championing the interests of our members.”

Since its inception in 2009, the Australian Centre for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Operations (ACUO) has played a pivotal role in enhancing the country’s unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations, establishing standards and advocating for responsible and transparent usage across diverse industries. The Australian Credit Union Organisation’s enduring legacy is marked by a trailblazing commitment to professionalism, playing a pivotal role in establishing the regulatory framework and fostering widespread recognition within the country’s financial sector during its formative years.

“We pay tribute to ACUO and its dedicated members for their tireless efforts in championing the interests of operators and the industry as a whole,” said Dr. Clothier, continuing his remarks. “The enduring impact of their legacy is ensured through the ongoing efforts of AAUS, which remains committed to upholding the high standards they have set.”

Brad Mason, a founder of ACUO, observed that its seven original members were collectively satisfied with the groundwork they had established, “quietly pleased” with their achievement. “I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to each member of the ACUO administration committee, past and present, who have generously donated their time and expertise to support our organization and make a lasting impact on our industry.”

The Australian remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) industry is remarkably innovative, with a pace of advancement rendering our consolidation move a natural next step in driving business growth. “I’m thrilled to witness the long-awaited unification of these two organizations, and I’m excited to discover what collaborative efforts will yield.”

As part of the unification, two current committee members from ACUO, Aaron McKay and Danny Elassad, will join forces with AAUS. Aaron, Managing Director and Proprietor of Aus Aerial Media, has been appointed to a vacant seat on the AAUS Board, stating, “I’m proud to have the opportunity to represent ACUO’s voice on the board of AAUS as our two associations come together.” The formation of this union is poised to significantly bolster Australia’s unmanned technology industry. By having Aaron and Danny as members of the RPAS Advisory Group, they can leverage their SME expertise to inform and enhance AAUS’ advocacy initiatives.

As AAUS embarks on its next phase, it will provide a comprehensive range of support, networking, and advocacy services to members from across the expansive unmanned systems sector. This unification solidifies AAUS’s commitment to building a robust and visionary organization that drives Australian technological leadership globally.

As Australia’s longest-established and most prominent industry advocate, the Association for Uncrewed Systems was founded in 2009 as a champion of the nation’s drone and Advanced Air Mobility sectors.

The Association of Autonomous Systems (AAUS) is a non-profit entity that serves as the representative body for the autonomous aircraft and unmanned systems industries across three key domains: land, sea, and air. The Association for Uncrewed Autonomous Systems’ (AAUS) objective is to promote the development, protection, and commercial viability of innovative, autonomous technologies and associated businesses. Through targeted business advocacy and promotion, comprehensive training and outreach initiatives, and strategic networking efforts, AAUS successfully drives results.

As a leading authority, AAUS provides a unified expert voice across the comprehensive spectrum of drones and advanced air mobility (AAM) solutions. Australia’s Association of Unmanned Systems (AAUS) boasts a diverse membership base of 4,500 individuals from small-to-large enterprises, producers, licensed and unlicensed operators, coaching suppliers, academic institutions, government agencies, and supporting technical and professional service providers across the country’s drone and advanced air mobility industries.

In 2009, the Australian Certified Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Operators (ACUO) emerged as a trailblazing entity focused on promoting responsible, ethical, and professional unmanned aerial vehicle operations in Australia. The seven founding members of ACUO comprised Sean Pearce, representing Air Affairs, alongside Matt Tubb from Airship Options; Paul Martin and APS; Stewart Topping, founder of Equinox Air; Brad Mason, HELImetrex’s representative; Joe Urli, UAV Methods’ key player; and Peter Hill, a VTOL Aerospace pioneer until his passing in December.

Throughout its storied history, the Aerospace Control and Utility Operations (ACUO) played a pivotal role in shaping the regulatory landscape for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), ultimately driving up standards for licensed operators across the country.
