Dara Khosrowshahi is stepping down from the board of Aurora Innovation, a leading autonomous vehicle expert, due to a desire to focus on his ongoing responsibilities as CEO of Uber and reduce external board commitments, according to a Friday regulatory filing.

Daimler’s CEO Ola Källenius’s sudden resignation took effect on Tuesday. According to Aurora, Khosrowshahi’s decision to step down from the board was not driven by any discord with the company. 

Uber’s top government officials meet with Aurora Innovation again. In 2020, . Uber agreed to divest its stake in ATG, injecting $400 million into Aurora and securing a 26% equity share in the combined entity, with Khosrowshahi taking a seat on Aurora’s board as part of the transaction.

Uber’s logistics arm, facilitated by Uber Freight, has retained ties with Aurora, a nod to its continued collaboration with the autonomous vehicle startup. In June, Aurora partnered with the Uber Freight community to facilitate the placement of vehicles using its expertise. 

While Uber’s partnership with Aurora may seem extraordinary, it’s hardly isolated. The corporate additionally has the self-driving truck startup based by Raquel Urtasun, who had beforehand served as chief scientist and head of R&D at Uber ATG. 

Shailen Bhatnagar, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Atkins Réalis, is set to join Aurora’s board, succeeding Jeff Khosrowshahi. With nearly two decades of experience working at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Bhatt brings a wealth of knowledge to his current role.

After Khosrowshahi’s announcement to leave the board, it emerged that Nolan Shenai, Aurora’s long-standing legal advisor, had previously expressed his intention to depart on January 6, 2025. Ossa Fisher, president of Aurora, will assume responsibility for Shenai’s commitments while the corporation explores alternative arrangements to replace him.
