Google kicked off the holiday season by treating Pixel users to a surprise gift in the form of its December Pixel Drop, released just in time for the festive period. The latest iteration of the Android platform incorporated cutting-edge innovations alongside essential updates for a multitude of Google applications. Last Friday, we started noticing the Pixel Digital camera app receive its 9.7 update for select users, but it was apparent at the time that this rollout was still not widely available to all customers.

Following the recent redesign of the Pixel Digital camera app, users have noticed the absence of the convenient on-screen Fast Entry Controls previously available for adjusting parameters such as brightness, white balance, and other settings. Despite efforts to refine the feature, customers remained dissatisfied due to the introduced extra step, necessitating them to navigate to the bottom-right corner of the screen and tap the settings icon to access these controls.
Google has apparently recognized its earlier design change as an error and is reverting back to the original layout with the latest version of the Pixel Digital Camera app, specifically tailored for the newest model. The Pixel Digital camera has been upgraded to version 9.7, restoring the on-screen controls that enable adjustments to brightness, white balance, and shadows via intuitive taps on the viewfinder. A user, who obtained the feature on their Pixel 8 Pro.

Google’s app update rollouts are typically staggered, which means you might need to wait a bit longer than others to access the latest features or enhancements.
When replacing the camera with model 9.7, a familiar white balance slider appears on the left, accompanied by brightness and shadows sliders on the right side of the screen. To quickly adjust these settings, consider using the alternative method that eliminates the need for an extra button press.
