During their initial experiment, Brännström’s team successfully implanted uteri into nine women who had undergone IVF treatment to generate and preserve embryos prior to the procedure. Women’s uteruses are not designed to last forever, either. Doctors usually remove the implants once the intended parents have completed their families, often within a year or two of having one to two children. Elimination can indeed be a significant operation, requiring careful consideration and strategic planning to achieve desired results.

There exist various routes to building a family. While some ethicists are engaged in exploring uterus transplantation as a fertility therapy, concerns arise about reinforcing harmful gender stereotypes that equate a girl’s value with her reproductive capabilities, noted Natasha Hammond-Browning, a legal scholar at Cardiff University in Wales. “There is ongoing debate about the extent to which we should provide more options for adoption, surrogacy, and supporting existing young people who require care,” she stated.
