It appears that Apple’s Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter, which was first introduced in 2016, might soon be phased out.
With the iPhone 7’s discontinuation of the 3.5mm headphone jack, Apple launched a new product that complemented its flagship smartphone’s innovative design. To use wired headphones (excluding the Lightning EarPods bundled with your device), you’ll need this adapter.
Apple bundled EarPods with iPhones 7, 8, and X. However, starting with the iPhone XS and XR, this practice ceased, prompting customers to buy them separately for $9.
Clearly, iPhones have transitioned to using USB-C, with Apple also releasing a compatible adapter for iPhone 15 and subsequent models. However, for users of older iPhones, such as the iPhone 14 and earlier models, time may already be running out.
Currently available for purchase on Apple’s online store, the fact that stock has depleted doesn’t necessarily mean it’s sold out forever – though it does suggest a strong demand. This phenomenon occurred when paired with Apple’s USB SuperDrive, which was initially released before being quietly discontinued several months later.
Although this product is currently unavailable online in the US and many other countries, it can still be found in France, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden.
As the MFi landscape evolves, options will continue to emerge, but for those seeking a specific Apple-certified solution, time is rapidly running out. Despite Amazon’s out-of-stock status, you’re still able to buy this item at a discounted rate of nearly 10 dollars less than its original price of nine dollars.
