As Norway’s Factiverse tackles misinformation with cutting-edge AI technology.

Following in the aftermath of the U.S. In the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election, one disturbing reality emerged: disinformation spread rapidly online across various topics, including public health, climate change, and immigration. The proliferation of generative AI, capable of producing deepfakes in mere seconds and prone to fabricating information, poses a significant threat.

A city preparing to confront the aftermath of a devastating hurricane that ravaged its coastlines just last month is steeling itself for the impending deluge. A company has emerged victorious in the Safety, Privateness, and Social Networking category with its innovative B2B solution offering real-time fact-checking capabilities for text, video, and audio content. Our pitch to corporations is straightforward: by leveraging our expertise, businesses can significantly reduce the time spent on analysis and simultaneously minimize potential reputational risks and legal liabilities?

The Norwegian startup remains in its nascent stages, having secured a total of $1.45 million in pre-seed funding since its inception in 2020. According to Factiverse CEO and co-founder Maria Amelie, the company has already started collaborating with various media and financial partners, including one of Norway’s largest banks.

According to Amelie, Factiverse provided real-time fact-checking services that were utilized by several media partners.

“We don’t pretend to be a behemoth of linguistic proficiency.” Amelie told TechCrunch that the team has developed a distinctive model of mannequin grounded in information retrieval principles.

With a background as a seasoned journalist and published author, Amelie possesses intimate knowledge of the struggle against misinformation. With Vinay Setty, affiliate professor at the University of Stavanger and CTO of Factiverse, she collaborated to establish the startup with a business-to-business (B2B) strategy in place.

Factiverse’s model excels at processing high-quality, meticulously curated, and trustworthy information from global sources and renowned fact-checking organizations, unlike “fast food” information fed to generative AI models, according to Amelie.

“We train our AI model to emulate the thought processes of an expert researcher, as if it had developed a deep understanding of information through its own experiences.”

The AI-powered mannequin, leveraging machine learning and natural language processing, can establish claims and conduct real-time searches across diverse sources, including prominent search engines like Google and Bing, as well as AI-driven platforms like You.com and academic papers.

“‘I think what people enjoy most,’ Amelie said, ‘is that we’re not showcasing everything that pops up at the top of these search engines.'” “We’re offering you a curated list of the most reliable sources, often considered the gold standard in your field…By delving deeply into the topic, we identify key players and experts quoted in relevant articles.”

As of the current moment, Factiverse reportedly surpasses GPT-4, Mistral 7b, and GPT-3 in generating fact-check worthy claims across 114 languages. The corporation’s model also outperforms large language models (LLMs) in identifying the truthfulness of a statement. Amelie revealed that Factiverse’s revenue share stands at approximately 80%, with a goal of increasing this figure as the company onboarded new clients globally.

“We’ve secured enough funding to excel, but we’re currently limited to operating within the U.S.” “To accelerate their growth,” Amelie counseled TechCrunch. She emphasized that the company needs to host a seed funding round by 2025. “We’re seeking out potential customers and investors who require a boost in trust and credibility.”
