The M1 Mac mini brings modular SSD storage and faster base model speeds.

The all-new M4-powered Mac Mini boasts both an eye-catching exterior design and numerous internal upgrades. As a result of initial disassemblies and user feedback, Apple’s latest Mac mini comes equipped with a removable solid-state drive. Although this does not imply that you could buy a brand-new Mac mini and upgrade its storage later on.

The online community was abuzz when consumer Kian Wee Lim shared a photo showcasing the internal architecture of Apple’s newly released M4-powered Mac mini, revealing that the solid-state drive (SSD) would not be soldered directly onto the logic board as previously speculated. The design of this solid-state drive (SSD) allows for easy removal by consumers, making it a highly accessible option.

As of our understanding in 2022 regarding the Mac Studio, this does not necessarily imply that the SSD is upgradeable. Ifixit has confirmed that the Mac Studio does not recognize entirely different SSD configurations, including those other than the specific drive installed at the factory. The identical possibilities apply to the M1-based Mac mini as well.

Apple may introduce approved SSD storage upgrade options for the Mac Studio at an unspecified point in the future. Apple introduces an enhanced solid-state drive (SSD) upgrade package specifically designed for Mac professionals. Finally, this project never actually reached its intended outcome.

Sooner SSD storage

Noticed by Apple enthusiasts, a subtle yet significant detail has come to light regarding M4-powered Mac mini users. It appears that the recently posted online information shows that the 256GB configuration of the Mac mini employs a dual-128GB storage setup, mirroring the design used in the M2-based Mac mini models.

As a result, the M4-equipped Mac mini will significantly accelerate learning and writing speeds, effectively resolving one of the most notable grievances regarding the preceding generation model. Apple tackled this drawback with the M1 MacBook Air earlier this year as well.

Today marks the launch of Apple’s brand-new M4-equipped Mac mini, alongside the latest MacBook Pro and iMac models.
