TL;DR

  • Google is upgrading its Assistant capabilities by shifting certain features to new Extensions, fueled by the power of Gemini, thereby fostering seamless connections with popular apps such as WhatsApp, Google Messages, and Spotify.
  • With Gemini, you’ll learn how to use the preferred extension for contacting and messaging each of your connections.
  • Customers can manage Gemini’s behavior primarily through exercises, such as choosing the desired Extension for contacting or messaging contacts and disabling unwanted extensions.

Google is transforming select Assistant actions into new features fueled by Gemini’s AI capabilities. Prior to this adjustment, whenever you asked Gemini to send a WhatsApp message or text via Google Messages, it relied heavily on Google Assistant’s capabilities to complete the task. That is altered to accommodate new extensions for Gemini seamlessly. As AI capabilities continue to evolve, they can rapidly assimilate information on your preferred Extension settings to ensure seamless task execution.

Debug contributor, Assemble, successfully activated the latest Gemini Extensions in Google’s beta version 15.40.31.29 of their application. As of late, screenshots have surfaced online, shedding light on the imminent transformation of supplementary Google Assistant actions into Extensions, with details yet to be fully disclosed. The company’s Gemini exercise is designed to enhance user experiences by streamlining tasks such as selecting a contact. For seamless extension functionality, it is imperative that the Gemini Apps Exercise is enabled.

Significantly, Gemini will also learn the specific extension used for making calls and sending messages to each contact with ease. Customers are free to manage their own exercises, request a one-time extension, or opt out of extensions as needed.

Introducing the latest innovations in messaging and music: New Extensions for WhatsApp, Google Messages, and Spotify?

Assembling Debug discovered and activated extensions for WhatsApp, Google Messages, and Spotify. The WhatsApp extension’s functionality now relies heavily on Gemini for seamless message delivery and voice calling capabilities. This integration was previously powered by the Google Assistant. When using the Gemini demo, you’ll notice that the app seamlessly launches WhatsApp when you want to edit a message. This isn’t currently possible within the current framework of the Google app.

The Google Messages extension functions similarly to its WhatsApp counterpart. Google’s description highlights the Extension’s ability to transmit and examine messages; currently, though, it can only send messages, failing to analyze them accordingly. We attempted to provide Gemini with specific directions, such as “display my last Google Messages update,” but unfortunately, the AI failed to produce a result.

The Spotify extension shares similarities with its counterpart, the other extension. It effectively functions for both free and premium Spotify users alike. When requesting Gemini to play a song, with the Spotify Extension activated, the AI promptly begins playing the selected track from Spotify and displays a thumbnail of the album artwork or music video, allowing for an immersive experience. Tapping the Spotify thumbnail instantly launches the app.

We’ve managed to enable these new features by experimenting with the Google app’s beta version. When the rollout becomes more widespread, we’ll notify you once it’s available to all.
