Swiss-Mile, a pioneer in innovative robotics, has secured a significant $22 million in seed funding to propel the development of its revolutionary wheeled quadruped.
Has been utilizing drones to provide a range of services over the past year, including piloting deliveries for customers, facilitating last-mile logistics in smart cities, and ensuring security for critical infrastructure.
Swisslog’s innovative quadruped robots are capable of strolling, driving, and standing upright on two legs, while also manipulating packages with precision using their advanced wheeled end-effectors.
The funding round was led by Jeff Bezos, through his venture, Bezos Expeditions, in partnership with Hongshan. The project received additional support in the form of a partnership with Armada Funding.
Inside Swiss-Mile’s embodied AI
Swiss-Mile asserts that embodied AI serves as the foundation for its robotics endeavors. The built-in reinforcement learning and supervision are seamlessly integrated into a cohesive framework, empowering robots to independently learn from the ground up and refine their skills through real-world applications. The Swiss-Mile strategy enables the generation and scaling of innovative robotic behaviors, continually refining them through insights gathered from both real-world settings and simulated scenarios.
Amazon’s current investments
Since its launch in 2022, the Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund has made investments in a range of robotics startups. Its early investments included ventures such as Bionic Hive and Mantis Robotics.
Recently, the company completed its initial funding round, securing a significant seed investment. InStock leverages an Automated Storage Retrieval System (ASRS), incorporating modular racking and a single, versatile cellular robot capable of navigating upwards along the shelves in both directions. These autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) transport bins horizontally and relocate them vertically using partitions and ceilings, thereby providing additional space for the AMRs to maneuver and aggregate bins. InStock has been recognized with a prestigious 2024 RBR50 Robotics Innovation Award for its cutting-edge robotics solutions.
Amazon’s $1 billion Industrial Innovation Fund is an enterprise capital fund supporting the development of industrial technologies. It aims to support emerging expertises companies through direct investments.
