Significant updates to Apple’s macOS operating system may materialize sooner than expected. Apple is poised to release macOS Sequoia in mid-September, with the operating system expected to debut simultaneously alongside other company announcements.
Following its annual iPhone announcement event, Apple typically releases a primary version of iOS in September, just before the latest iPhones hit the market. In recent years, Apple’s macOS has consistently followed the release of iOS by a few weeks to a couple of months, with some variations occurring as late as November. Last year, Apple released macOS Sonoma on September 20, just eight days after the debut of iOS 16.
The discovery of a beta cycle in macOS lends credibility to MacRumors’ earlier report. As of developer beta 7/public beta 5, the Sequoia beta releases are in sync with the corresponding iOS 16 betas. In the past, macOS beta releases trailed behind their iOS counterparts, resulting in a delayed macOS launch schedule.
The flagship feature of macOS Sequoia is the seamless ability to quickly access and connect to an associated iPhone from your Mac, streamlining your workflow and enhancing overall productivity. Upon the simultaneous release of iOS 18 and Sequoia, this feature is poised to debut promptly, necessitating an iOS 18 environment for its immediate availability. New features include advanced video conferencing capabilities, enhanced Safari functionality, and the introduction of a novel password management application, among other improvements.
Apple’s AI-driven features for macOS Sequoia are anticipated, but they won’t debut alongside the initial September release. Apple will soon roll out Apple Intelligence features through upcoming software updates within the next few months.
